At around 22:27 he says the Smart Car battery is " 10's of thousands of Dollars" ?
How can this be accurate? The whole vehicle from brand new cost less than that.

I also think the comparison to Tesla, well kind of silly. Just a way to get Tesla into the headline.

    BUT...
It was fun review. I was impressed with the product presented.

Always thought smarts looked like a fun car to drive, and it is really all most of us need for a commuter. I'd just need to move in order to make the electric one work.
    Check the used car listings.
If you are looking, be aware that smart had a battery leasing program back when this was available. So you might need to pay a monthly fee, or buy the battery separate. Not sure what the status of that is now.
You find new ones at a smart service center either, as 2019 was the last year for the US.
The one in the video is a video is a 2015.

How about we reverse the question and ask: Is the Tesla worth $80K MORE ?
And my resounding answer is NO.

But it isn’t 80k more, so the question is moot

While it may not be directly their point, there are BEVs available on the used market. So you don't need eighty grand to buy new in order to get a BEV.

I don’t get it. Sounds like an apples to rocks comparison to me!

Pretty much the only thing they have in common is that they both have electric drivetrains, and very different ones at that.

This Smart EV has something like 30% of the Model X’s cabin space, about the same percentage of range, and roughly the same percentage of charging speed.

The Smart’s cabin and dashboard are about as primitive as something from the 1970s, compared to the space-age Model X.

It doesn’t even have constant-speed cruise control, let alone level 2.5ish on the autonomous-driving scale.

    Utterly pointless comparison...

In Europe Mercedes charges €17000 for a replacement battery. There was a guy in the news a while back who had a dead battery after only 5 years. The car was around €24000 new for him.
    €17k is almost $19k.
    €24k is around $26.6k.

BTW the cheapest Model X available here has a base price of €94000 ($104k) and that is the Model X long range.

I agree with the comments previously made.

It is interesting that if someone wants to test the BEV/EV waters they realize there is an option other than a $40,000 to $100,000 Tesla. There are a wealth of other options This very reasonably priced used all electric vehicle might be just the ticket for a person who wants only to commute within their own area and see the benefits/disadvantages of all electric transport at a very reasonable price.

In the future when gas prices begin spiking again it might be a nice option to have an all electric option reasonably priced available to motor around town in.

This car isn't for me but I can see where a differently inclined driver might have an absolute blast scooting around town in this all elctric vehicle.

    I agree.
The headline is stupid. And the video itself isn't at all a comparison between the two really very, very different products. Seems like just trying to maybe gain a few more views or clicks by including the term "Tesla" in what is really just a review of an used Electric Smart Car.

I thought the video as a review of the electric smart car was good. Makes me wish they were still available.
But IMO that's all the video is....comparison to Tesla is just word play. And IMO kind of stupid. I would of left it out.
