I will not go into my A/C saga for fear of getting depressed. I will just say choose you service shop carefully.

Anyway, after having a shop fill it refrigerant and dye they told me nothing up front was leaking and that they needed to look under the dash. That lead to a new evaporator and $$$. One week later the A/C quite. And after they looked at it they said the compressor discharge hose leaking and it would be $679 plus tax.

This place also scratched the center console and left a wire junction unit out from under the dash trim, and the dash trim no longer stays up but hangs down a half inch. I feel like litigating this.

I did not tell them to proceed but instead called a Toyota Shop with a good Yelp rating in another town. They said they do not think they ever replaced a compressor discharge hose on a Prius.

I am concerned about the whole thing. It was a nice car before all of this.

All thoughts and advice would be appreciate. Where does a discharge hose go? Do they leak often? What is a reasonable price to pay to replace it?

    Thanks

Maybe in the future after the experience is finalized (good or bad) you can share the servicing shop here, so others can use it as a basis.
Almost sounds like the work performed wasn't up to standard, how many visits before the A/C quit?
Hoping @lech auto air conditionin will chime in, as he would be able to tell you what is what.

discharge from compressor to top fitting on condenser. easy to replace. was the discharge hose rubbing on something ? was it in a small front end accident before at sometime ?.
this is exactly why I try not to condemn a evaporator at first. I recharge add UV tracer dye and tell the customer I believe the evaporator is leaking. I pick up a small trace amount that triggers my refrigerant detector but not enough for 100%.
I put UV tracer dye in your car lets find all leaks first and or any thing that may give a small leak that may lead me to replace the evaporator. Drive your car for the next two week with the a/c on all the time never turn it of even in the rain or fog, day or night. just adjust your heat and fan speed to your comfort but do not turn off your A/C. then when you come back i will have the best chance to find all leaks. before replacing your EVAP.

Will share when all is said and done. Does anyone know if Toyota dealers have mandatory arbitration?
