I just picked up the parts to install the factory XM in my 2006 Prius:

    I bought them here: http://www.metrotpn.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=96

They arrived right away, but I'm in need of some installation instructions.

I found some for the 2004/5 Prius, see: https://www.metrotpn.com/documents/PDF%20Fi...sXMradio3.2.pdf

But what I'm wondering is if these instructions still apply for the 2006 or if they changed something. Can anyone tell me? Did anyone out there do this install on a 2006 yet?

    TIA

I used the same instructions for my '06.

I used those instructions but also another that was recommended because it showed good detail on dismantling the dash.

Do me a favor and let me know if you get 16 characters displayed or just 10. The one I just bought from the same place only shows 10. I thought it should have shown 16. Thanks!

    Hello,
The way I understand things is that you will need to have both the new Toyota XM radio (2007 model has a single antenna wire connection) and a late year 2006 Prius (2006.5?). Not sure about where the cut-off is during the model year but the newer models will display all 16 characters with the new radio whereas the older 2006's continue to only display 10 characters. Assuming you have the newer radio -- I imagine your car would be an older 2006. When was it manufactured?

I just installed an XM the same day as Jeanne. I only get 10 characters too. Our Prius arrived at the dealer mid-September 2006. We've only had it for a few weeks. I'm not sure of the manufacture date. Is that on a door sticker or something...? I'll have to check, but I'm sure that if there were new radios, ours should have gotten one. I bout the XM radio a couple weeks ago. One thing, we have the standard stereo, not the JBL or the Nav system. I don't know if that matters or not?

I believe the manufacture date is located inside the driver's door. With regard to the radio, the new radio's antenna is smaller and has a single wire verses the larger form factor and double wire of the older radio. If the dealer is installing it they would install it on the right side of the dash. Please refer to a post from stevehj regarding his install: stevehj post.
