Sure but way back then cars were not nearly as complex as today. So many little things today can leave you stranded. To many electronics and computers.

I was just scrolling through other stuff here and figured I'd update this thread with how things turned out.

Based on recommendations here, the only non-standard maintenance I did was having the transaxle fluid changed - as expected, the dealer said "you don't need to do that," but I did it anyway. The car made it through the trip that started this thread just fine, and several more.

I traded it in a couple of months ago at 245k miles, still running fine but occasionally reporting warnings about the cooling system (monitoring with my BlueDriver never showed inappropriate coolant temperatures so I expect other sensors were getting wonky). I had timed tires and brakes to get me to 250k, figuring that was the point at which I no longer wanted to trust the traction batteries, so things worked out according to plan.

I'm no longer in a Prius, but my wife just bought a new 2018, which I hope will be as reliable as the 2007 was.

Ted B, I am so glad to hear your report on your 245K successful miles. I used to be a regular on this sight when I got my 2007 Gen 2 Prius and again when I was the second person in Portland Metro area to get Gen 3 with the solar roof. Then 2013 I bought a Prius V wagon. All have been replaced except the original 2007 with 198K miles that my son still drives. Hope he can make it to 245K without any major issues. I guess at this time we will try to catch up on the maintenance which we fell behind on. Replace the 198K mile spark plugs and PCV valve to see if new PCV valve helps with Oil Consumption. If the PCV Valve doesn't stop recessive oil consumption, I may try a piston ring cleaning. I will also flush and fill cooling system and Power Split Gearbox and a good suspension inspection. We did have to replace the Traction Battery with a Toyota Rebuilt pack. Scotty Kilmer says those don't last long, but I hope being an official Toyota rebuild will be better. If the traction battery dies again, I think it may be time to stop putting more money into Lightning Green McQueen, but she still runs great.
