2011 prius air condition...charged the system yesterday at a shop which injected dye also for leaks.

Very suspicious. Did the system actually lose pressure? This electric a/c is very particular about everything, the amount of refrigerant, the type of and exact amount oil, how low the vacuum was drawn prior to charging. You don't just casuallly pump in refrigerant. Even dealerships have a hard time with some of this.

 

I remember somebody possibly @Dxta saying it takes a special refrigerant to not destroy the compressor.

$80 it dies the next day and then he jumps to a $1500 evaporator replacement just to see if that’s the problem something smells fishy. He did not confirm this with electronica refrigerant leak detector it sounds like he’s just guessing shooting at whatever will stick on the wall and seeing if the fish will bite. A one day leak is a huge leak easily usually but not always found with a GOOD electronic leak detector, and cheap does not equal good when it comes to refrigerant leak detectors. The same goes for UV dye not all UV dye is created equal most shops look for the cheapest stuff they can find in many shops find the oil with the UV dye in it that’s already diluted and it does not qualify as diye to try to find leaks by adding to a system.
Many shops try to buy the cheapest UV light they can find what has a very weak Power and sometimes even do you V spectrum wavelength that is needed is not obtain mobile buy the cheap knock off UV light diode’s that are used. Mini show a pretty purple light but barely fluores the dye.

I am curious for $80 either you live in a far off countryside small town where labor and rent and housing is very cheap? . Or did this guy just break out a can with A hose and fill up your system?

 

Replacing the evaporator under dash is crazy time consuming. I did spend 800$ for labor and parts when i did fixed my.
Just make sure its actually leaking and the only way to find out is fill it up with dye on very hot humid day and let it run hard and check the drain under the car if the condensation from the condenser have dye showing up.
