    It finally happened, on friday the triangle of death appeared. I have a 2011 Prius with 180k miles and the "check hybrid system" warning came on. I went to AutoZone and got the Poa80 code. I was expecting this as my mpg has consistently been going down and the battery doesn't hold a charge very long. I starting researching and am trying to decide what I'm going to do. The consensus on priuschat seems to be to buy a new battery from the dealer as the price has come down. I'm in the General Los Angeles area and I can't seem to find a dealer that is selling the pack for less than 2500. If anyone knows a dealer that has them for less than 2 grand that would be great. I've also read that a good option would be new Prius battery if anyone has experience with that battery/company including a long term review that would be awesome. I think I could pull that off. I've also looked into greenbean and bumble bee and have read mixed reviews. I should probably get a full diagnostic to make sure it actually is the battery and not something minor. I did check the fan and it's clean so I eliminated that possibilty. Àny insight or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Are you using oil in any amount? Perhaps it is time to trade it in while you can still get something for it.

    the cheapest way to get a new OEM battery would be to get a Gen2 battery and harvest those modules to your 2011 battery. They are essentially the same. Not sure why Toyota sells the Gen2 for less.

    You can shop longotoyota online website and they'll match the price for you to pickup at the dealership.

    @JC91006
    Thanks for the suggestion. Would I still be able to get my core deposit back?
    @scona
    Not sure I follow. Maintenance is pretty much up to date. I get oil changes every 7-8 thousand miles.

    Many gen 3 vehicles with your mileage that report on this list consume oil. Repairing that problem plus a traction battery replacement may add up to a cost that is prodigious. As 3d generation models approach 200,000 miles expensive problems begin to occur. Some times it may be economically beneficial to part company with the vehicle while it still has value as a trade-in. Such may not be the case if it experiences engine difficulties.

    They are NEW. $1600.

    Other places sell remanufactured ones. Which seem to be cells pulled from older packs where
    some cells have failed. They put the better ones into one pack. But are still used.
    Some offer good warranties, but how much down time will you have every few months while you
    wait for them to get to you to replace with another used pack?

    You could also try this: Prolong Battery Systems | Hybrid Automotive California, USA

    For about $650, you get an automatic charger/discharger. You just install the wiring harness, which
    is not difficult to do. Then plug it in and let it do it's thing. People have had success with this in getting
    the hybrid battery to last a lot longer.

    Thanks for your reply. I checked out prolong battery systems and it's seems like a good product. The website claims that there is a 90% success rate for Priuses that are displaying the error code. Would definitely suck to purchase and be in the 10 percent where it did not work but then again you could possibly use it with a lower priced used pack and get some benefit from it. Went to a local shop today and they are selling a battery with brand-new after market modules for around 2000 for the complete assembly. 3 year 45k warrenty. It's an established shop that's been around for a while. Electron auto. I got to figure out what heck I'm going to do. Thank you.

    For $2000, I would give you an OEM battery from 2019. Why would anyone spend $2000 on an aftermarket battery

    Nobody other than myself posts here on Priuschat that has anything to do with NewPriusBatteries.com

    None of my employees even drive a Prius let alone care about a web forum online about cars lol.

    Prolong would be a good investment. And if it didn't work for your old battery, you can use it
    on the new battery to keep it in top condition.

    Have you tested your 12 volt battery? How old is it? And have you put a charger on it to put a
    full charge on it?

    12 volt battery is relatively new. About 30k miles on it. Just ran Dr Prius test and these were results. IMG_20200609_143605.jpg IMG_20200609_143542.jpg

    Any long term reviews on your battery kit? I can't seem to find anything. Cheapest assembly I can find from dealer is around 2100 plus tax and core deposit.

    You can search this website. People have put lots of miles on them and posted their experience which is all boring, because it works. The taxi fleets don't bother to post to an Internet forum but they have the most usage.

    How long will it take to ship? I'm in Los Angeles area. Best dealer price I can get is 2363 plus 1350 core deposit out the door. Called about 20 local dealers.

    If you're willing to drive closer to San Diego I think there's a dealership there that honours internet orders of $1700USD.

    Right now we have 2 or 3 packs not spoken for in stock. For Gen3 I'm waiting on harnesses to ship which should be early next week. Gen2 can ship today.

    You can fix it yourself for really cheap or pay someone to do the same job for 350-600 but if you just want to purchase one then I would go with green bean battery check them out they have a lifetime warranty and they come to you and install it. Price is with installtion and reinstallation for warranty is covered when needed. The warranty is also transferable if you sell the car. $1650

    Thanks for the suggestion. After research I decided I wanted a pack of new cells. I went with a local shop that offered a similar module as newpriusbattery. I was going to get that kit but they were out of stock until mid July and I use my vehicle for work and need it up asap. I didn't want to do the Wac-o-mole method as I do not have the proper equipment to test and recondition the healthy cells. I considered Greenbean but read their battery could be hit or miss as they use reconditioned modules and I can't afford the downtime from their batt failing and having to go through warrenty procedure multiple times. The cheapest new oem battery I could find after calling 20 plus dealers and checking Toyota parts online was around 2400 plus 1350 deposit out the door. The battery I decided to go with was fully assembled and I just had to switch it with my old battery. They charge 200 extra for labor so I decided to do it. So far it is night and day compare with my old one. I've only driven 150 miles but my mpg has jumped from the 40 mpg to 50.4 and it holds a charge like when I firstgfirst it. I will continue with updates about how the battery performs in the future. Came with 3 year 45k mile warrenty and price was 2040 out the door. I was considering greentec new battery but they were gonna be out of stock until the end of next week and they were right around the same price I paid with a two year warrenty for vehicles that are used for commercial purposes. Thank you for everyone's input.

    To clarify for people in the future , there are no similar batteries out there to ours. They may be shaped similarly, but not even close to the same.

    I didn't realize you didn't buy our pack. Expect 3 to 5 years of use before failure
