Thank you, I truly appreciate your input. I can't spend over 13k and have't found any other gen 4's in this price range. There will be no warranty on this car with 100k miles, that scares me a bit but I've had a 2006 & 2010 that were both amazing cars, hopefully the 2016 will be as well. Going to look at it today. I found a 2014 prius V wagon with 60k miles but you guys in my price range but you say go with the 2016's & up if possible right?

I'd go with the 2016 as long as it hasn't been wrecked or have any other warning signs. We've had five Prii. The first two we bought with over 100k miles on them. Both were 2005 models. One got crushed from behind at a traffic light by a guy texting at 60 mph in 2000 Jeep Cherokee. It had 176,000 miles and was running like a new car. We replaced it with a 2007 that had 98,000 miles and it now has 138,000 miles. The other 2005 I traded in at 150,000 miles for a PiP that had 53k on it which I then traded at 86k miles for the Prime I drive now. Wife still loves her '07 and would rather drive it than the new car because she likes things simple. I really enjoy the tech in this Prime, much of which is also in the '16 trim 2.

If you want lots of room, the Prius v would be a good choice, but for me the sacrifice in fuel economy wouldn't be worth it since I don't need that much space.

Oh bless, hit by a jeep going 60mph, dang.... and he had no insurance, ugh! I shouldn't even complain, my ordeal is nothing compared to yours! I don't want to give up the gas milage so I'll probably pass on the wagon. What "warning signs" should I look for? If it's been wrecked obviously but what else? Thanks again!

    You should hire a lawyer.
It's not JUST replacing the vehicle. It the TIME lost from your loss. TIME to find another vehicle.
TIME worrying if the replacement vehicle will have any problems. ETC.......
Plus, you said the other person did not have insurance. They are a criminal, and should NOT have been
    on the road.
Have you been to a doctor and gotten checked out? You might have injuries that have not shown up yet.
This is why you need a lawyer.
No one should let criminals get away with things like this, because they will just continue to do it and hurt
    more innocent people.

Thank you Dogman, the person who hit me has insurance. I was referring earlier to the accident of JerryMildred, that one had no insurance. I may have to get a lawyer involved. The insurance of the person who hit me has already stopped paying for my rental car so that's coming out of my pocket as of yesterday.

Seriously, yes this is SOP (standard operating procedure) for any insurance company (and pretty much any business dealing): Start with a low offer and see if they take it. Insurance billing uses the other end of the stick: Bill as high as possible and see if they'll pay.

Well, they did have insurance to cover the car.

Anyway, there are already lots of threads covering what to look for in used Prius shopping. Since you're already familiar with how a Prius should act, you would already know what to expect from the battery level display, so look for those bars going up and down faster than normal. Look for leaks. Get a CarFax report (not a guarantee, but might reveal something). Many people like to spend a bit on an independent inspection by another dealer. It might be due for new tires at that mileage. Check all the lights, radio, and other buttons. Also, if the previous owner had it serviced at Toyota, you can plug in the VIN at toyota.com/owners and see what's been done.

What if the payout difference between the higher trim vs base trim was only a few hundred dollars? Would you still consider hiring a lawyer?

Call your insurance rep to have him/her call their insurance rep, and have their insurance be responsible for the rental charges/reimbursement. Long as you have a legitimate reason why a rental is needed.

No offense, nor directing this message to you but Car insurance are shit to me when it comes to those things. I tried legitimately to explain my situation to recoup any lost like that before, it didn’t happen. I even wrote/type and sent them a certified mail letter explaining, denied.

I am so sorry you had this experience! I have found insurance companies are very difficult to deal with as well.

I agree, insurance companies are a pain. They only care about NOT giving you money!
They will only take care of book value for the vehicle.
That is why you need a lawyer. And sue the person for lost time, etc...

I sounds like we all enjoyed and identified with the insurance company scene in The Incredibles. :ROFLMAO:

Am I the only one who sees the similarity between JerryMildred's avatar photo and the incredibles screen shot? Arm positions, posture, etc.? LOL

When dealing with claims against another insurance company (not your own), you need to consider them the opposition. They do not mean it to be a fair fight. But if you at least realize that, you will be better prepared for a good outcome. They need to satisfy your reasonable claims, or you will sue their client (not the insurance company) in court.

Got the Gen 4 today!! I'm still fighting with the insurance company, I didn't tell y'all I am married to an attorney, not that it does me any good. He'll be the first to fight for someone else but when it comes to me (us) he's like "No just forget it", because the outcome might be perceived as self benefitting. That's why we're poor! He's too good and kind hearted to be a lawyer. So I have a 2016 with 110k miles on it, no warranty, but it looks and drives like a dream! The funny's thing is they sold it to be and let me drive it home with no credit check, no down-payment, just a post-dated check. I told them I may not be able to come up with the money to pay for it all 12,500 and I might have to finance part of it but they didn't seem to care. They sent me home in it anyway. Thank you thank you thank you all. I am in love!!! Y'all are great, I appreciate the support and for steering me in the direction of this Gen 4.

That's what makes it fun here; we throw random opinions and then the teacher read the answers to us at the end of class.
