I can appreciate what you are saying, but you would hope the dealership would consider the importance of positive online reviews after the sale, the difference between a good or a bad review as far as customer service after the sale could lose or gain them other customers.

I get the impression my salesman is limited what he can check on his own, he is a very nice person, but when I ask about any news on the progress of the vehicle, he says he needs to ask the new car manager to contact the regional office, so I am guessing that is not something he can do himself, the new car manager might not want to bother the regional office, and the regional office might not want to be bothered, I am hoping that is not the case, but it could just be they won't automatically keep track of individual factory orders unless the customer calls and asks.

There are about 160 to 180 car carrier ships laid up world-wide, about 22% of the world's fleet, and the number is expected to increase. That means longer waits before a ship is available to be loaded. Also, many of the remaining ships are slow-steaming to save fuel...they don't have cargoes for them any sooner.

Thanks for that info, I can definitely understand the actual shipping time might be longer than normal, but I am hoping they'd at least let me know when the car is actually assembled (and therefore has a VIN number to track) as things are right now, it looks like our car has not even been assembled on the assembly line yet even though it's been over 120 days since the order was placed.

Just knowing if it's been assembled and waiting to be shipped will make the extra wait a little easier :D

are they laid up because of no business? if so, that shouldn't slow toyota deliveries

From a news feed I read a while back the Toyota factories in Japan were only closed for less than a week in April if I remember correctly, and because of a reduced demand for cars. Of course that likely is figuring worldwide demand, not just U.S..

I just guessing here as far as the shipping time itself being longer, but I would think they'd not want to send a ship across the ocean half-filled, so if it takes longer to get a ship filled with orders that could add to the overall delivery time.

We'll be glad just to find out if our car has even been assembled yet :D

    GKL,
You are definitely a more patient customer than I am. I’d have become pushy with the dealer by now.

Well, a big part of our being patient all this time is that we actually wanted the extra time in order to get a bill paid off and also to have a much bigger down payment available. But now that it is just a little past 120 days we'd like to at least know if it's been assembled yet even if it still takes a little extra shipping time.

Okay, we got an email from our car salesman today with the VIN number included !!!! :D

He said that he hopefully expects the car to arrive at the dealership sometime next week !!!! :D

I checked the VIN on the Toyota site and it lists the order date as 4/2020 so I am guessing that is when the car was actually made ?

Auto sales are slow world-wide. A big U.S. problem (maybe other countries also) is that auto rental companies are parking huge portions of their fleets. The U.S. auto rental companies buy almost a million new cars in a normal year. This isn't a normal year. Hertz is in bankruptcy. None of them are buying many cars. Huge numbers of the rental fleet cars will go to wholesale auto auctions (when the auctions reopen), the usual number of lease return cars will be at auction, and the public isn't buying. Great used cars at great low prices will depress new car sales as well as depress car trade-in values.

agreed. but what does a car carrier hold, 5,000 cars? i would think toyota got gkl's prime on a carrier in a reasonably timely manner.

    Thanks !!!!

The dealership experience was really pleasant, they seemed at first to be going with the 2.9% interest rate mentioned back in January as the most they promised it would be, but when we explained that the current rates seemed much better now then back then they had no problem and used a coupon to get out interest rate to zero ! Even though it was only the 2nd factory order they ever had, and the first Prime that salesman ever sold, he must have really educated himself on the features as he kept going on and on explaining many of the features, I think he was having fun just going thru all the features himself :D Both the salesman and the finance manager knew their stuff and were very helpful. The salesman even invited us back if we needed him to go over more of the features, I said thanks I appreciate that but since they are so far away I think I can learn stuff between the manuals and online info.

GKL, at the end of the owner's encyclopedia is a list of optional things the dealership can change for you, things such as how many times the car beeps for a certain situation, etc. You might review this and decide what you want changed when you take the car in for its first regular service. You can make many of these changes. Some can't be changed. Others can be changed only by the dealer (or a consumer with certain scan devices).

To start, keep things simple. Keep the car in EV mode and just enjoy driving it.

Do check the tire cold inflation pressures. Often the dealership pre-delivery service is little more than a wash. The tires are pumped up hard for the ocean voyage. The cold inflation pressures noted on the placard on the driver's door jam are the correct pressures.

Thanks, and interesting info about the tire pressure, I just figured if the tires ever got low (like going from summer temps to winter temps) the dash light would alert you, I guess it only alerts for low pressure and not high pressure. I wonder if there is a feature that tells you tire pressures or if you just have to use a manual gauge like with the old non-tech cars

Right now in the south the weather temps usually vary between the 80's and 90's for highs this time of year.
