Nothing turns on in 2011 Prius

If they hooked up ac gauges for an ecm update then they probably leaked out Freon on purpose so you would need the recharge. They exist to make money so they have to figure out a way to get you to give to their cause. If they didn't hook up ac gauges then they are just making stuff up which is just as bad. Its a shame it has to be that way. I bought parts from a gm dealer and the price went from 200 to 300 by the time I picked up the parts. That's just how it is when you do business with a dealer. I just paid it and left. It was the only way I could get the exact part that my truck had so I did it. I regret it but that's how it goes sometime.

Btw, carbon in the throttle body is about normal and probably could be cleaned but you can do it with a tooth brush and a 3 dollar can of throttle body cleaner or carb cleaner. about a 5 minute job. Just open the little plate with your finger, give it a squirt and scrub it clean. if not now, later is as good. Its not a rush thing.

 

I wouldn't "give it a squirt". Safer to apply carb cleaner to a clean, lint-free cloth (and/or q-tips). Even better is to remove the two nuts and two bolts, lift it off (coolant lines still attached), and clean it more thoroughly, from both sides.

Am I misunderstanding something?if you got the "new" battery from the dealership, it should be under warranty. If that's the case, why not take it back in?

 

I get the at risk, Im in the same boat. Best thing you can do in this situation is to just yank out the battery from the car and carry it in and have them check it. Show them the receipt or have them look it up. Even if you have to leave it and come back they should be able test it and swap it out if its bad. I bought a battery from advance the other day for a truck, almost had it installed and thought....wonder if I should test this before I close it all up. Plugged a tester on it and sure enough it failed. Had to take it back, Their tester was broke so I was going to show them, they just said we believe you, sometimes they come in bad. They swapped it out on the spot, I put the tester on the new battery and it tested good. With as many cars as I have this little tester has been pretty handy. It also will measure the internal resistance of Hybrid cells too. Carry in your battery and have them test it. They wont call a bad battery good and it costs them nothing to swap it out. They should charge it while they have it if it needs it. Plus you spent a lot of money for a quality battery you should get one. If they say its good, then it is. Time to look at other areas.

I have some prius under cover in the back yard I let sit 30 days at a time. I go back there once a month and start them, force charge the hybrid battery up. They start right up. I sometimes put my motorcycle charger on them just as something to do but I don't think its required. I start them before I charge the 12 volt batteries just to let the car charge them first then I trickle charge them if Im concerned. I have 4 vehicles in "storage" so I bounce the charger around to keep the 12 volt batteries happy and well charged.

 

That is the way to go. There's more "buy a trickle charger & charge it up" responses than there should be, your response hits the nail on the head.

Not much they can mess up. I replaced my battery under warranty recently. I just called in, and they suggested setting up an appointment. I went for the appointment, dropped off my battery with the service advisor, and then waited for them to bring the replacement. I did have to wait a while, but yeah.

Of course yeah there is the COVID-19 aspect. Keep your distance, stay away from people that aren't masked up, wash your hands, etc. Stay safe

 

Don't go there; there is no alternator.
