I must agree that I see motorcyclists always wave at each other, regardless of the kind of bike they're on. I owned a Honda Shadow ACE 750, and every bike rider on the road waved at me...except for the crotch rocket folks who were usually going to damn fast to do anything but hold on. However, I waved at them, and I saw some Hogs do the same. I like the sense of community. Someone waving at me makes me happy...so I in turn do it, too.

BTW--where I'm from, which is similar to Mayberry RFD, everyone waves to everyone. Hand on top of the steering wheel, every time you meet an oncoming car, your index and middle finger go up...we call it the two finger salute.

Much better than a one finger salute!

My hunny and I ride his Suzuki Intruder all over the place here in Southern Cal. We've done many of the big charity bike rides like the Love Ride. Most motorcyclist's will do the hand acknowledgment. I kind of think it's sort of like saying, "Be safe out there man."

And I've STILL not gotten one Prius wave yet!!!! There's just too many around here, I guess. Can I at least get a darn cup of Kool-aid?

OK,, OK, but I was reading it in one of those porta pottys when I dropped it. If you still want it, I'll go get it for you.

Pardon me for losing my sense of humour, but I find this more offensive than funny.

I don't find it offensive at all. References to Kool-Aid have become an extremely well known and generally accepted part of American lexicon when talking about cults or cult-type activities. I am guessing that "Waiting for the space ship to come and get us" would probably not be offensive to you, yet it refers to the the same type of activity as that which happened in Jonestown: people killing themselves because their "leader" told them to, usually in preparation for some event.

Look how often the phrase "drinking the kool-aid" is used in the language (google if necessary). It's become part of the culture and, anymore, it almost never refers to people killing themselves, but rather wholesale "buying into" a concept or philosophy.

By most accounts it's become a fairly tame reference. :)

I guess since a ship is a mechanical thing, it shouldn't have a name either. :p

My first two cars had names (Fafard and Bessie), the next one didn't, but it was known as "The Probe."

And I never said I was normal. :)

Out of respect for those of more delicate sensitivities I'll move this thread to FHOP so that it may be avoided by those who don't wish to hear such things.

Sorry, it's just me having a bad day and I took something the wrong way. The implication seemed to be that I'd lost the ability to think for myself and was willing to end my life for the empty promises of some deranged despot. I guess I'll have to drink up on my American lexicon...and get some more sleep.

Just saw on wikipedia that it was Flavor Aid instead of Kool-Aid used in Jonestown.

Have also heard the phrase "drink your own Kool-Aid" told to people, telling them to "practice what you preach"

When I'm in my Prius, I hear voices.

They are always telling me what to do, where to go.

well when my parents first bought their 01 no one on the road had a prius, so waving to others was rare, once or twice a year, especially here in NJ.

by the way we live in a free country

And we wonder at the steady escalation of violence and human insensitivity when such words and ideas lose their impact. Hundreds dead and bloated in the equatorial sun and this reference is tame!

The "f" word used to be the hallmark of low life. Now, every comedian on HBO uses it a hundred times as a noun, verb, adjective and interjection. Tame..... Hitler is the immediate and only comparison we have with evil because everything else is now "tame."

What will it take to shock us next? Hammers squashing eyeballs?

? Animals are sentient, emotional beings. I think there's something wrong with people who DON'T attach significance to other beings, or the same as they would attach to an inanimate object such as a car.

Just wanted to point that out :)
