For me, 2006 package #7 purchased in July of this year, dial by name works when I am driving down the road. It uses the exact steps that are outlined in the owners manual.

I prefer dial by name, probably because that is what I learned first, I have never used speed dial.

Unfortunately, according to Coastal's application guide, this won't work on the 2006.

Thank you Stan! I was sure I was not the only one that used dial by name while driving. Actually there was another thread going the same time this one was, and I believe Terri did get dial by name working while driving.

OK, I know this is probably a stupid question, but how do you enter numbers into the Speed Dial buttons? (I have a 2006 #7)

I think if you go to a contact you can assign a speed dial number to the contact...you must be stopped to do this.

How do you add the voice tags to the phonebook entries so you can dial by name?

when you go to an entry and press "edit" keep pressing the down arrow on the scroll bar on the right. I think it's the last option, but it's on the last page of that options screen.

Anyone else having problems with the voice recognition adding additional (as in not spoken) numbers in the dial by number mode? Even when I dictate each # individually and it repeats back to me, when I finally send out the call with all the numbers, Jill adds extra/additional digits I never said.

911 and the local Police Emergency numbers are the very first things I entered into the Speed Dial catalog.

I try not to use my phone while driving ... It's a distraction and unsafe on that count. Seventeen speed dial numbers, and voice dial by number, is more than enough for any call I might need to initiate while in motion.

    It's a car, not an entertainment/communications bubble. ;-)
