If I got in my v and the engine would not start (older battery not started in 3 months) I would think it could be the TRACTION Battery, relay or inverter. But if I got in and the car and it was totally dead then I would know it was the 12 volt. If he stated first that he had to use the key and no lights at all I would have posted differently.

Semantics. Happens quite frequently on hybrid forums. Another example: "My battery died. Help!!!!", forum then spends the next x amount of posts trying to discern which battery has died, why the OP won't respond to questions, rants about this and that...... Welcome to PriusChat! :ROFLMAO:

The 12v starts the car, the HV battery starts the ICE.

The op mention AGM technology and a trickle charger so I thought it was fairly clear they're referring to the 12v.

He did say "it's completely out of power" and "AGM batteries". Both of those point to the 12V, not to the traction battery.

If the traction battery, its relay, or the inverters driving the MGs, are having problems, the car should fail to go "READY", a required step before it ever tries to start the ICE. If it goes Ready, but then the ICE can't start, then there should be an ICE-specific problem (lack of fuel, etc.)

Oh, i just trickle charged the 12v battery and everything was fine. The traction battery still had plenty to start the ICE.
I bought a 3.5 amp smart charger (with AGM mode) and charged it over a few days. Though i first used my 8am Maypole charger to get the battery up to a decent voltage. I bought a new multimeter too

That's great! But I would start saving for a new 12volt battery. Once they go completely dead,
they usually don't last too long afterward. And keep a jump pack in the car. :)

My AAA card is my "jump pack".

Since he has a new meter, checking the battery voltage after it sits unused for a couple of days should tell the whole story.
