Finally running into hv battery issue on 5tg Prius. 2012 v 5 AT, 111,000 miles and indicator started jumping Soni ordered Bluetooth obd II reader and Dr Prius app.

Full battery test yesterday in heat a couple time, life expectancy and ran full test this am before things heated up. This morning test in color.

My quandary is I have a 2,500 mile trip in two weeks so I seriously doubt I could get the HA kit in time and don't want to be stranded in the boonies of Kansas.

Should I try and find a shop near Columbus that can rebalance or punt and call green bean?

    I appreciate any input FullDiagnostic_2020-07-03_03-47-06.jpeg FullDiagnostic_2020-07-03_03-58-17.jpeg FullDiagnostic_2020-07-03_04-30-57.jpeg LifeTest_2020-07-03_04-45-05.jpeg Screenshot_20200704-090421.jpeg

wow, that's really early. maybe just some corrosion?

it's unusual for a battery to fail completely, and if the car hasn't thrown any lights, you're probably fine. but there's always a small risk.
if it were me, at 8 years and 112k, i'd look for a couple cells and a prolong charger.

What do you mean by "indicator started jumping"? What other issues are you having tat led to your running the tests? Is the vehicle driving OK?

usually means the battery charge indicator keeps going from high to low and back again, repeatedly. sometimes one of the first signs before the rtod.

Driving to the freeway in the morning would draw the battery indicator to half. I'd drive 30 miles and state of charge would stay at half until I hit the brakes to exit and the level indicator immediately jumps to nearly full.
A couple weeks ago I parked it at night with nearly full battery, in the morning I started it, backed out the driveway and within 200 meters the indicator dropped 75%, that's what I mean about the battery indicator jumping.

The prolong charger was my first thought but they are backed up due to covid and I'd hate to get the red triangle 800 miles from home in a bunch of farm fields far from civilization in two weeks.

I'll do a few screen shots under acceleration and heavy braking to see if different banks of cells act weird.

I never found it necessary to kneel when replacing the traction battery. It's an option, but a painful one.

After seeing your results, I decided to run the traction battery life expectancy test on my 2012 Prius with 60,000 miles on it. The test results were that it is in new condition. I've had the prolong charger/discharger since 2017 and started treating the battery at around ~30,000 miles. I use the charger about every 3 months and the discharger about once a year. Hope this helps.
