It would be interesting to compare the same analyses done to say cancer drug studies. I wouldn't be too surprised if it is equally disorganized and chaotic.

Just as a follow-up, back on 6/27 I made a back-of-the-envelope projection of sorts, based on the Bexar metric "ICU cases + ventilator cases" having grown from 197 to 338 over five days (72% growth), that the same growth rate would take the number to around 580 over the next five.

Didn't quite get there; it was 499 on 7/1, just 48% growth.

I hope the good news continues.

i really don't understand why the fda is studying this stuff when soap and water works fine according to the experts, but here's another one that is confusing the public:

Was reading about an ongoing case study with a thousand members. ½ of them were a placebo group. In short, the drug reduced the recovery time in half.

Today our state joined the many other states which now require mask!

Governor signed an executive order today on TV- No mask = No service at any retail outlet.

Interesting side note the Chamber of Commerce and the Retailers Association for our state banded together to push for this executive order.

Reaction from citizens was overwhelmingly in favor of mask - as expected some bad actors (which I guess are everywhere) are already planning lawsuits because nobody is going to tell them what to do, especially to wear a mask to protect others!

Moderna has not marketed a vaccine before either. J&J and AZ have.

For me, the most interesting tidbit in link @2332 was that (at least) one vaccine required -80 oC freezing. That equipment is common in research labs but not all the way out in health-care settings. Seems like a bit of a kink.

AFAIK the only thing that needs such cold storage is RNA. Not DNA, not virons and not 'chunks'. It's another thing I should have thought of, months ago, when we first learned that some vaccine candidates were messenger RNA.

Formaldehyde is an FDA-approved preservative in vaccines that does inactivate enzymes, including those that degrade RNA.
Common Ingredients in U.S. Licensed Vaccines | FDA
It does have a side effect, however, of also chemically modifying RNA in ways that can affect biological activity, and its presence in vaccines is among concerns of the anti-vax community.

A variety of commercially-available RNase inhibitors are available, but may not have been vetted fully as vaccine components for human use. RNA also is more stable when precipitated from solution. I am sure they are exploring different delivery formats at warp speed.

Dry ice shipping and storage is a lower-tech alternative to -80C freezers, but does involve costs and is not a viable way to reach much of the planet.

Any untried technology is going to have its issues that will have to be worked out, but each presents a pinch point. That comment also was made by the CEO of Novavax, who might be trying to cast aspersions on competing technologies and touting the advantages of their approach (their candidate is not an RNA-based one but uses protein-bearing nanoparticles that he does say are room temperature stable).

Looks like we found our limit where the rapidly growing cases among the (not completely immortal) younger ones eventually translate into deaths:

grateful for that, but long term health ramifications still hold a lot of unknowns.

or am i misreading, are you saying deaths are now on the rise? that's what i see in the graphs.
