    Hello,
We have a 2013 Prius V with tire size 215/50R17. I'd like to get Michelin Defenders but the only type made in that size is LTX, which are for trucks. I am now considering Michelin Premiers or Energy Savers. Looking for a tire that will be smooth and comfortable and will not totally suck on MPG. Any guidance would be appreciated. Currently purchased Bridgestone Turanza QuietTracks but can easily return since they haven't been installed yet .

I have defenders on my 2013 v but I have never looked at the size. I'll go out and check in a while.

Suggest looking at tirerack.com as they offer many brands and have user reviews and sometime their own tests. All you do is input your make, model, year and zip code they have a great web site. (offered me 84 choices for a '12 v) You can go elsewhere to buy, they have no requirement for any registration.

We went with 225/50R17 98V Continental LRR on our '12 v Five.

I've had couple sets Bridgestone turanza EL versions and liked them well, but never had them on a Prius...
Currently I have a set of Michelin Premiers A/S on my Lexus ES300h, and they have been great tires.. good traction and fuel friendly for me...

I bought 175/65R-15 YOKOHAMA AVID ASCEND GT SL for my 2012 Prius V. I have had them on for two years and they will probably need to be replaced before winter. I have no complaints about them.

I have a Prius v model 5 with the 17” rims. Toyo Proxes were stock (don’t recommend). Replaced with Michelin Premiere A/S....very decent..good traction and low noise...but wear wasn’t that great. Currently have Continental PureContact LS. Buttery smooth ride, firm enough for a Prius, quiet, great traction and no mileage hit. They also have a decent sized sidewall to protect rims from curb rash. Oh yeah, price is also pretty reasonable too.

At 10K miles, virtually unmeasurable wear.

Do not buy Goodyear Assurance 205/160R16. Toyota dealer sold them to me and cannot stop my car from vibrating at highway speeds. Endless trips to align and balance tires and dealer will not refund my money. Blames Goodyear for it.

For smooth, comfort, cost and long lasting, I would downsize to 15". You can find good deals used.

You can't on a V wagon. They won't clear the brake calipers in the rear. I got a sweet deal on a set of Michelin X-Ice snow tires on 15 steel wheels. I test fit them on the front because with the bigger calipers, that's where you'd expect clearance issues. They fit the front, so I bought them. When I went to mount them in the fall... Doh!:(

I got a set of Sailun Inspire tires and am very happy with them. They were less than half the price of the Michelins and seem to ride just as well. I'm generally skeptical of bargain tires because they tend to last about half as long as Michelins. So even if they're half the price... if they only last half as long, they're actually more expensive in the long run because it's $120 to mount/balance/dispose of a set of 4 tires. But these have a 70K mile warrantee -- and in my experience, the warrantee is a pretty good indicator of what you can expect for mileage out of a tire. Even if you don't get the actual mileage, it's a good indicator when comparing brands.

I paid $82/tire for the Sailun Inspire (95V). The Michelin Energy Saver A/S (91H) at the same shop was $175 (with a 65K mile warrantee), and the other Michelin Energy Saver A/S (90V) was $203 (with a 55K mile warrantee).

Do I need a 95 load-rated tire with a V speed rating on the Prius? No. But in this case, I got a higher load rating, a higher speed rating, and a longer warrantee for less than half the price. Time will tell how they wear. BTW: I'm at 180K miles and run winter tires/wheels for 4 months of the year, so these may be the last tires I buy for this car.
