Anyone use a head gasket sealer on their Prius, if so, how long has it lasted and what brand did you use?

i haven't, but iirc correctly, there's some concern that it will clog the radiator and other critical items

A radiator replacement isn't too hard. But the heater core, exhaust heat harvester (if equipped) and water pump are a bit trickier.

I've seen friends and acquaintances try it and based on those observations I'm not going to put it in any car unless it's a hail-mary last chance deal where one more month on the road would make the difference.

About a decade ago, I developed a problem in my brand new $12K BMW race motor.

After some contemplation, I decided I had very little to loose by trying a snake oil motor sealant.

I bought "Moroso Ceramic Seal", it completely fixed my race motor. (Doesn't work with coolant)

You would want the "Moroso All Weather Seal" because it works with coolant.

I would never put anything for head gasket leaks. Either finding good replacement engine 2013-newer or fix it with revised Toyota head gasket or Felpro USA that fix these issue. If it is 2010, I would get used engine instead since many cases the piston rings also defective. But it really depends what your car value is now. Any leak sealer will cause bigger and more expensive problems. Heater core clogging easily cost $1500 to replace, radiator not too bad probably $300. But it really ruins the whole cooling system by pouring any sealer. The list are from Engine, heater core, radiator, thermost,3 ways valves, water pumps, etc.

Prius 2010-2012 problems with piston rings and head gasket design. Blown head gasket and oil consumption
2013 head gasket design and piston rings are revised. no more blown head gasket but sometimes oil consumption.
2015 piston and piston rings have final revision, 0 oil consumption.

How do you explain how I saved a brand new $12K BMW race motor with Moroso Ceramic Seal ?

PS, It's in my pictured #43 BMW race car...

KBB estimates my cars value around 3k. Currently paid off. I wonder how much a new engine would cost to get installed.

Why would success with an oil sealer indicate anything about the performance of a coolant sealer?

I agree with you that it is the sort of thing to try once you don't think you have anything left to lose.

That's not completely correct. All of the 2010-15's have headgasket issues. I helped someone on this forum with a headgasket failure on their 2014; there is a thread on here about it. My friend's shop just did a 2015 with 231k.

The piston rings are a different issue altogether.

Please look up "Snake Oil", it means: phony, not real, worthless, junk, crap, fake.......

I clearly stated in two different posts that I used Moroso Ceramic Seal, this product pours into the radiator & seals up the cooling system.

I had almost nothing to lose by trying it, I was shocked that it actually worked for me. 100% success !

Ha! sorry, I owe you an apology.

I saw the words "...oil motor sealer..." and transposed them to "motor oil sealer" between eyes and brain, my bad.

Okay, so that's one vote for the Moroso product, and back to our regularly scheduled thread.

I have used this in the past. Mostly on my 72 Datsun 510. Old gasket leaked. In between getting my head and valves machined, I used it till I was ready to do the job. It worked. Worked so well, I was able to save up for a larger motor, (went from the stock L-16 to the larger L-18), put in headers, a weber carb.............and pow!). Anyway, those were the fun days!!

I'd skip the bar's product based on 2 things: 1) Some experience radiator & cylinder head water passage clogging. 2) Less than a 4 star rating.

When my BMW race motor was later inspected, there was no evidence of clogging with the Moroso product. I personally wouldn't use anything else.

PS, take a good look at your VVT solenoid and EGR valve. (service them AFTER you use the sealant)

True! If there's anything to be learned from the app economy, anything less than 4.9995 stars is probably still in federal prison from the last time it slaughtered puppies.

@John A ...but seriously, I think all those comment/rating things have been gamed on both sides. As always, the recommendations of family, friends & local neighbors should outweigh whatever you read on the internet.
