Hi there fellow gen 2 users! I just looked at an 09 Prius with 208k miles. It is the base model, no luxury features or anything, and I’m in California. Dude wants $4200 out the door including taxes and registration/transfer. Do you guys think that’s a good price? Car runs great, checked the battery drain and recharge and it checks out. No oil leaks or anything. I’m really interested in having this car, so far the bottom front grille of the car is broken off, due to driving on the highway a lot, that’s no big deal, and the front right lock actuator is gone. Alarm is a little finicky but I can fix that with a Toyota technician that I have access to. What do you guys think? What should I do to it if I get it? Let me know!

Please do a carfax and thorough DMV check. There has been several people coming in here with similar situations only to find out that the car had double the miles on it and forged documents. Did you meet this guy in an advertisment?

I did not meet this guy in an advertisement. Found it off of Facebook Marketplace, and he was local in my city. He's the second owner to the car and commutes in the vehicle a lot.

Reasonable price for California... But you'll need a good strategy for battery maintenance or even replacement at some point... What are your thoughts on that?

You can look up vehicle history by entering VIN# in Toyota Owner's website... Make sure it had all the recalls before they expired, etc..

Looked at maintenance records online with the VIN. Battery was replaced at 144k miles. I think it should be good for a while, but if anything, I will rebuild the battery myself. Otherwise, as for battery maintenance, I'm able to do it. I just need to know what to do to keep the battery in good shape.

Edit: I did look up in MyCARFAX and Toyota Owners (had a previous account)

Battery was replaced with new OEM. At a Toyota dealer under the power train warranty I believe so.

UPDATE: Got the car! Two front door lock actuators are dead which is no big deal, otherwise, the car runs great.

G2 Cat theft is rampant in California. There after the prescious metals in it. Takes them 5 mins to clip it
You must use oem cat or it will not pass smog. Very very $$$$$$$$

Yep, id recommend getting a CAT shield (~230 bucks for getting part and getting mechanic to install), and avoid parking at the end of the block(easy access and easy sight) on residential parking or any high theft area.

I live in Ventura county. My was stolen last week. Luckily I was able to get another one. I'm waiting on the security shield so I can install it. In California they want you to use a new oem part. Cost in the 2000 range.
