Fog light wattage 2011 Prius II

I am in the midst of installing fog lights. with glass lenses. on the Prius. I notice they came with 35 watt bulbs seems a bit low to me. If i put H11's at 55w will it melt the housing of the light? I don't want to go any higher but 35w seems way too conservative.

Your thoughts please.

Oh I have to mention that it took me all day in 90 degree wx to try and remove one of the blanks where the fogs go. Worst part is I got one in and the last one is still unfinished, that blank or what's left of it are still in the car! What a PITA. I know..... it 'should' take less than a minute to remove the blank and insert the fog light nice person'y. This is the sort of thing that happens in a shop where a 30 minute job turns into an all day affair. How do you explain it to a customer? <sigh>

 

No I didn't but anything would have been better than the misery of working on the floor. On my other Prius I had to remove the bumper to install a GrilleCraft grille. I had fog lights on that car too but never had to wrestle with getting them installed as I did here. I am going to have to take it to a shop, get it up in the air, and take the bleeding thing out that way. Talk about something you wished you'd never started!

Thanks for the photo and your description of what you are doing.... somehow the post went sideways by about 5 miles.

I am NOT installing HID fog lights, they are simple halogen bulbs, no ballast, no nothing, but a switch and a relay. They came shipped to me with 35 watt HALOGEN bulbs and I was asking if putting 55W halogens would be too hot for the housings.

I appreciate your time and your lengthy posting, most appreciated, but it doesn't apply to what I am doing.

Thanks very much for the photos and also the information about running h-11 bulbs. I agree with you about the fog lights possibly blinding oncoming traffic if they aren't adjusted properly. On my other Prius I was able to get them adjusted down to a point where there was little if any glare to oncoming traffic. It seemed like there was enough adjustment that allowed me to do that. However it certainly didn't have the sharp cutoff that you are impress you photos show. Nice to know that somebody else is interested and what people are looking at when they are coming at you in the dark. I have replaced my low beam headlights with LEDs from diode Dynamics. I'm very happy with them and against my garage wall just like yours there is a very sharp cutoff line of course that's due to the projector beam and the metal shield inside the housing.

I have a question for you, i'd send a PM but don't see how to do it...
Can you tell me what secures the fog light to the bumper cover? Is it a bolt with machine threads or a self tapping screw like a sheet metal one that screws into plastic? I know there are 3 locating tabs but surely that's not all that's needed

I posted the question in the Gen 3 forum but am not exactly being overwhelmed with responses lol. Figured if anyone would have an answer it'd be you..If you read my post from yesterday you'll see why I don't have the bolt/screw that I need. I don't want to have the car jacked up or on ramps and have to take it off to go to Lowes to get a blasted screw or bolt.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH that was the info I needed! I knew the 2 locating tabs and the one on the bottom weren't enough to keep it all secure.

I'll just get a variety of sheet metal screw so wen I am under the car I'll have what I need. Where the OEM screws got to is s mystery, but I had to quit the installation suddenly and the parts got misplaced.
