The new cars are built with very light material. They dent whenever a hard object touches it ! Very light skin. Windshield break with very small rock hits. Beautiful car but I'm think they will look new long. No more Toyota cars for me! I will check my new purchases out very carefully in the future. I am sure others are noticing these issues as well.

Is it Toyota specific problem? All of our cars Nissan and Honda are the same. I have not had a domestic car for years, but I have a feeling they are the same as well.

Buy a classic car. Won't dent as easy, but also not nearly as safe as today's cars.

Same here, developed a ding almost immediately. Girlfriend has a '99 toyota and she says "yea that's how mine is too, engine is bulletproof but the body's delicate." First time a small rock hit the windshield, cracked it. I drive 25,000mi a year and my cars get hit by a lot of rocks. My 2015 Hyundai took a ton of hard hits before there was a chip in the glass.

It looks tough (and kind of stupid), but is it any tougher -- I kind of doubt it.

Oh it is tougher all right.
Well, not sure about the glass, but the body is made of cold rolled 304 Stainless steel. Very tough stuff, at least in the proto-type we saw.
Rumor is Mush has found a tougher alloy which they will be using for production.

I assume he's talking about the acrylic piece in the front. Yeah it's not my favourite piece because it's fragile and it's in the most vulnerable place for rock chips.

I'm not sure about panels but both the Gen 2 and Gen 3 had "flimsy" panels because they used ultra-high tensile steel that allowed them to be thinner but retain the required strength. Their thinner properties meant you could press the body panels with your fingers. (but they'll pop back out).

He hasn't found out about the carbon fibre rear hatch. That one is strong. Except it'll just shatter once you past the breaking point (pun intended).

yep. I have a door ding and 2 rock chips in less than 8 months of ownership and only 3,200 miles. The body is very fragile. Probably the last Toyota for me too.

The only windshield I've had to replace was on a 2005 Prius. Did some repairs to the '06 Prius windshield. Last summer, a blown tire bounced off of my Prime's windshield. No damage. But a bird cracked the stupid acrylic grill.

Well in most parts off our world the hyways are ice and snow for 4 mths. of the year. They use sand for traction! Some of the sand is larger and will damage brittle glass and it does in my area. For this reason I invested $1200 dallars clear brau. That covers all the front including mirrors and 3/4 of the hood. I was not aware off the winshield change. My o6 and 2014 have never had a winshield changed! First drive on ice I got a crack! The glass breakes with a hit from a very small rock. The glass is very brittle. Im not sure if a widshield is made for our condions in the northern or southern areas in the mountains or colder state's, I hope there is as this is a beautiful machine!

    “Brittle” glass??
Sounds more like a combination of bad luck and possibly better aerodynamics?

It seems to me, a rock damaging a windshield depends upon factors such as the mass and shape of the rock at the impact site. The angle and velocity of the rock.
Had auto glass become tougher because I haven’t had a damaged windshield in years? No, it just means I haven’t had the misfortune of being hit by a rock with my car’s name on it.

With my 2006 at 100 thousand and a bit miles no breakes and my 2014 and 50,000 thousand miles no chips or cracks and with my 2020 prime first drive on partial winter one rock chip and another a few weeks ago a car thru a small stone for one more crack. The o6 or 14 would never have cracked. The 2020 models have very britle glass some action should be taken too have Toyota repair this dangerous situation. I for one will not drive this car during winter conditions. I'm hoping this problem will be corrected as someone will be hurt!
