Which version of TECHSTREAM for 2009 prius

Just about any TS version should work for a 2009, though later versions have an updated (lower) duty cycle for bleeding.

Which 'mini-vci cable' were you looking at?

 

I would also look for installations that are guaranteed to work on 64-bit OSs as these are common now. You need to be an IT tech of the highest order to install the 32-bit drivers on a 64-bit OS, or so the legends would tell us.

 

I tried to get three different versions of Techstream to work on a 32bit Windows XP laptop and couldn't get it to work.

 

Version numbers?

The COM ports can be a sticking point too.

But a very valuable tool once sorted.

 

13.00.022, 12.00.127, 12.20.024 are the versions that came on the disk that came with the MINI-VCI J2534 connector I bought a couple years ago.

I still have the laptop (AMD Dell Inspiron 1501), and although I have since installed a new hard drive, 8GB of RAM, faster processor and put Windows 10 64 bit on it, I still have the original hard drive with Windows XP and both 1GB and 2GB RAM kits and can just swap them over.

I was wanting to try to get Techstream to work on my Surface Go. But if I can get it to work on an XP or Vista machine, I'd be plenty happy!

 

How far do you get into the process?

The .exe file replacement is also a key step.

Some version also want the many digit "key", which can also be a challenge.

Did those versions come with a video and several files on the installation disk?

 

I don't see any video on the disk. Just three folders marked the version numbers with contents inside each fold for such. I did get it "running" but had a hard time getting it to do anything.

I was trying to read and rewrite my TPMS sensor codes (for swapping rims with summer and winter tires) and was only able to read the codes once on the 13.00.022 version, and that was it. I was only able to read the TPMS codes again after I uninstalled and reinstalled Techstream.

I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong, but it sure seemed like something was not working right.

 

What year is your car?

I'd try an older version of Techstream, say version 8 or 10, depending on the year of your car.

Some of the older versions had utility menus that the newer ones did not. At least I'm the version 12 I tried .

Version 10.30.028 worked well for me.

 

I was trying this on my 2013 Avalon Hybrid when I first got it a couple years ago. I haven't tried it yet on the 2006 Prius that I recently bought.

 

I'd give version 8 or 10 a shot.

Seems like you were able to connect to the car, so that's a positive.

I used version 10.30.028 on our old 2010 and it has been used on a 2007 successfully.

For our 2019 Prime and 2017 RX450h, I'm pretty sure I'll need a higher version.

But waiting on @SFO for that.

I'll cut him some slack though due to the pandemic .

 

I have the Mini VCI setup but have seen the VXDIAG in action.

The mini VCI runs about $20 where the VXDIAG runs north of $70.

VXDIAG runs smoother if you are looking for data collection, but my needs were fine for the cheaper option.
