2014 Plug-in tripping GFCI

    Hi all,
    I have a 2018 Prius Prime and recently got a used 2014 Plugin for my son. When I plugin the 2014 Prius, it trips up the GFCI outlet in my garage. I thought there's something wrong with the EVSE, but it's tripping even with the newer Prime EVSE on the old car. I thought my GFCI is old and replaced it but no luck. It's still tripping 15-30 mins into charging the 2014 Plugin on the new GFCI. When I plug in the car at public stations including 220V ones, it charges just fine. Any ideas what could be going on with my charging set up/car? It's bizarre because the 2018 Prime charges fine. Any help would be appreciated!

    Try charging your prime on the 8 amp setting rather than max;).

    Depending on the GFCI, it may trip at the max amp setting :cool:.

    I found this out where I work as they want me to have a GFCI connected between the car and the outlet. Use the 8 amp setting and all is well:).

    Thanks for the reply. The 2014 Prius Plug-in doesn't have a setting for 8A. Only the Prime has that setting. My Prime charges just fine at 12A, which is what is confusing.

    Yes, it's a dedicated circuit that I have been using for the Prime for 2 years now. Only the 2014 Plug-in trips it.

    Remove the gfci and put a heavy duty normal power outlet, make sure is grounded.

    if the prime works with the prime evse set at 12a, and the pip doesn't work with either evse, i would say the prom is the pip charger, but what? idk,
    maybe it's just the receppticle in the car, causing the trip after heating up, gfci's are sensitive, and i'm not sure it means there is something seriously wrong
