2008 - Brake Accumulator Recall Question & MORE =/

    Hello,

    2008 Prius - 180k miles

    Car when turned on makes a loud beep noise and almost all of the lights on the dash turn on. When driving I've been told the brakes are hard to push.

    Took to dealership for repair and was told it would be extremely expensive repair roughly 4k with labor. They mentioned it may make more sense to trade-in for a new vehicle. This rubbed me the wrong way as I know being a dealership they are keen on selling cars lol

    They said the Inverter cooling pump needs replaced and the brake accumulator. ($2400 in parts alone is what's listed on this paper)

    I took to another shop for a second opinion. I was originally told they would be willing to work on the vehicle but now I've received a phone call that they are not comfortable working with the Prius and are not familiar.

    Now I've turned to you guys for help! Here are the codes that are firing off provided on the diagnostic from Toyota.
    -Hybrid Control Codes
    P0607
    P0A93

    ABS/VSC/TRAC
    C1249
    C1252
    C1256
    C13191

    Is it worth fixing in your opinion and what would be a reasonable repair cost? Or should we cut our losses?

    -Website to find the part needed at decent prices
    -Possible quick fixes for smaller issues that may be causing the issues?

    PS: Still has original Battery as far as I know, Wife purchased in 2016 used from a Toyota Dealership. If the Brake Accumulator was recalled, from what I hear it was, is it Legal for the Toyota Dealership to sell us a car with a recalled major safety component?

    If the brake actuator was good when you bought it they had no option to replace it then from Toyota. I am pretty sure any extended "warranty" has now expired or else the dealer would have used it. In any case, Florida is a business friendly state.

    I would find a Prius shop, not everybody can work on them. Not a general shop that says they work on hybrids. The brake actuator can be replaced with a used part and the inverter pump is not that expensive. I could see it repaired for half that price, maybe lower on a gen2. What is important is how clean and functional the car would be if these things are fixed. As is, the car's catalytic converter is worth more than the car's resale value broken. Let the hybrid shop diagnose the solution, don't just say someone said replace x and y. By the way, add your city in your profile and you might get shop recommendations.

    you can find open recalls at toyota.com/owners

    start with a 12v test at an auto zone etc. or if you can't drive it, get a volt meter.

    I think the dealer is right on with the repair recommendation. It would be worthwhile to trade it in if you can't do the repairs on your own. Even if you DIY, the parts needed are over $1500 and you'll need to find a way to bleed the electronic brakes when you're done.

    After you're done with the expensive repair, you'll then have to worry about the HV battery failing. After you replace the HV battery, you'll soon need a 3 way coolant valve and new shocks. And after...well you get the idea
