    TL;DR
    • $44,990-$56,990 plus PDI and taxes.
    • Prime SE is just $2,200 more than the RAV4 Hybrid Limited.
    • Qualifies for $13,000 in rebates in QC and $6,500 in B.C.
    • QC rebates makes the RAV4 Prime cheaper than any RAV4 Hybrid and only $1,800 more than an LE AWD gas RAV4!
    • B.C. rebates brings the base Prime SE down to about RAV4 Hybrid pricing (around the XSE Hybrid mark)
    • Quebec launch for 2020 CY
    • BC and nationwide in 2021 CY

    TORONTO, ONTARIO – AUGUST 13, 2020
    - The Toyota RAV4 Prime hits the streets this month, blending everything that people love about the RAV4 with new levels of super-sporty performance, handling and style, a long list of advanced technology features and premium amenities – plus the remarkable fuel efficiency of Toyota’s plug-in hybrid powertrain. Everything about the all-new Toyota RAV4 Prime is impressive – including its price.

“By 2025, our goal is to have an electrified option of every model we sell and have those vehicles represent 40 percent of our sales. We will achieve that through a winning combination of performance, styling and price,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “The RAV4 Prime is an excellent example of going beyond a no-compromise approach to electrification and delivering big benefits to drivers.”

While there are many qualities about the RAV4 Prime that will impress drivers, the most surprising may be how affordable this vehicle can be. Before any applicable incentives, the RAV4 Prime starts at $44,990 – just $2,200 more than the top-grade RAV4 Hybrid. This makes it an easy decision for RAV4 Hybrid customers to step up to Prime. With federal and provincial rebates factored in, the RAV4 Prime becomes even more compelling for buyers.

Toyota’s plug-in hybrid powertrain technology delivers electrifying driving fun, and in the RAV4 Prime this translates into 302 system horsepower and impressive acceleration. And then RAV4 Prime takes you further, with a range of almost 1,000 km.

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime joins the RAV4 Hybrid as the second electrified RAV4 –Toyota’s best-selling model. But there’s much more to the story. With RAV4 Prime’s launch, Toyota’s electrification strategy has grown from a single, niche model in 2000 – the Prius– to a selection of 10 vehicles in a range of market segments.

The RAV4 Prime is built on the current generation RAV4 Hybrid – adding more powerful motor-generators, a newly developed high-capacity Lithium Ion battery and other powertrain enhancements. The result is a vehicle that breaks ground as the most powerful and quickest RAV4 in history, while also being the most fuel-efficient. The vehicle’s plug-in hybrid system generates 302 system horsepower and rockets the RAV4 Prime from 0-100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds, making it the second-fastest vehicle in the Toyota lineup after the GR Supra. The powertrain also delivers electric, on-demand all-wheel-drive and a towing rating of 1,134 kg (2,500 lbs).

More than just a power source, the plug-in hybrid powertrain’s high-capacity battery is positioned in the vehicle to help lower the centre of gravity, enhancing driving stability even as it doesn’t infringe on interior space. With an electric vehicle range of 68 km, the RAV4 Prime has the best range of any plug-in hybrid currently on the market. Combined with a top speed of 135 km/h in EV mode, many daily trips can be made without using a drop of gas. Meantime, the 6.6 kW on-board charger shaves recharging time down to well below three hours on 240V.

When it’s needed, the RAV4 Prime switches automatically and seamlessly to standard hybrid powertrain mode, combining its Atkinson-cycle gas engine and powerful electric motor-generators to deliver driving fun, impressive efficiency, and no range anxiety.

RAV4 Prime’s impressive powertrain demands equally impressive styling, so this SUV features a striking, sporty design with many exclusive features. These include vertical LED daytime running lights plus many available features such as unique 19” wheels, panoramic moon roof, Supersonic Red exterior colour and unique red interior accents.

As a technology showcase, every RAV4 Prime features a Display Audio system with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ connectivity plus Connected Services by Toyota. All models also feature Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, a backup camera, and Toyota’s Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert safety technologies.

The RAV4 Prime – which qualifies for a federal rebate of up to $5,000, plus provincial rebates of up to $8,000 in Québec and $1,500 in British Columbia – will be available in the following models and trim levels:

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime SE (starting MSRP: $44,990 before incentives) is priced to make the best RAV4 ever accessible to almost everyone shopping in the hybrid SUV segment. This model includes 18” alloy wheels, a Display Audio system with 8” screen, 7” multi-information display, heated front and rear seats, dual zone automatic air conditioning, tonneau cover, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, projector LED headlamps, heated leather steering wheel, piano black instrument panel and rain sensing wipers.

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE (starting MSRP: $51,590 before incentives) builds on the SE trim level, adding 19” alloy wheels, a Display Audio system with 9” screen, a unique black roof with power moon roof, a power back door, a digital display auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a wireless charging system for personal electronics, seating clad with Softex and fabric, black interior with red stitching, an anti-theft alarm system and illuminated entry.

    • Available on the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE grade, the Premium Technology Package (+$5,400) delivers the ultimate RAV4 Prime experience. This optional package adds a panoramic moonroof, an 11-speaker JBL Premium display audio system with navigation, a five-door smart key system, auto headlamp leveling and the adaptive front lighting system, full Softex-clad sport seats, a driver’s seat memory system, four-way power adjustable front passenger seat, heated and ventilated front row seats, a kick-sensor activated power back door, and a 110v/1500w power outlet. Additional safety technologies on this package include Head Up Display, Bird’s Eye View Monitor, Intelligent Clearance Sonar, and the Rear Cross Traffic Brake system.
The 2021 RAV4 Prime goes on sale on August 13th, 2020. Similar to the introduction of the Prius Prime a few years ago, the 2021 RAV4 Prime will begin its national rollout in Quebec. As production ramps up in 2021, the vehicle will become available in British Columbia and then the rest of Canada at Toyota Dealers.

Surprisingly they have 12 RAV4 Primes for sale in our area, all SE. One dealer is already taking $1000 off. Course that doesn’t match the $4,500 off for Prius Primes at some dealers.

I'm guessing the one taking cash off has more to do with the general state of the economy.

He does have a lot of inventory, which doesn’t help. That and the fact they still haven’t figured out how to sell plug-ins.

There's always the implication with these "feature" lists, that it's something good, desirable.

It would cruel but funny to tease the local Toyota dealer to get a RAV4 Prime in.

I see about a half dozen things in that package list I find desirable. I think the one package does exceed the three packages I bought on my 2019 Limited by about $1k, but you get a power passenger seat and the heads up display that are only available on the Prime plus the adaptive headlights AND moonroof (that combination was not available on the Limited). Now for me, I absolutely didn't want the moonroof so that packaging would be a negative. I live where it gets 100F and I buy white cars with light upholstery and never use the sunroof I do have.

I have zero interest in moon roof (aka sunroof, whatever). Don't feel the need for convertible-like driving, and it reduces headroom, enough that my hair's brushing the ceiling usually. Plus they add weight, complexity, can leak, and on and on.

... and peripheral vision problems from bright sunlight coming on the side.
I still have a few wild strays that get irritated from contact. Like animal whiskers on top. Far far short of any sort of sunscreen function.

My problem with moonroofs is more functional. You lose the overhead console. No place to keep my sunglasses.

I've never had one leak. You can keep the windows closed and open the roof to get airflow, keeping down road noise and the wind off your ears. The sun can beat down on you though.

Yeah, I don't have much use for them really, other than the better half loves them, so I have no choice...

Rav4 Prime will likely be our next car, in 2 years, 4 months. At retirement, the current Rav4 and the Prius will be traded in for the RAV4 Prime.

In hot sun, my sun-roofed 2012 has noticeably more heat baking or broiling down from the ceiling, even with the shade pulled, than did my non-sunroofed 2010. Only when it is parked, with the solar powered ventilation fan running, does it have an advantage.

But the spouse also loves them, so I also have little choice ...
