Im trying to buy a brand new battery from Toyota but have a dorman core and if I get shorted the 1350 core charge that will leave a mark. Can someone tell me exactly what they got from Toyota, the instructions and any other information so I know what I am getting into?

Exactly what has to be swapped over from the old to the new? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure an aftermarket battery will not be accepted by Toyota as a qualified core return. You definitely need to speak with Toyota on that one.

That's why I am asking what you get from Toyota vs what you need to return. The only thing that makes this a dorman is the paint on the box, which I could swap out if necessary. I could just take the dealers apart and swap cells. How hard are they looking and what are they looking for? Cant be an unmolested battery, I don't have an unmolested battery in my collection. They have all had to have some work on them at sometime.

The last time I read their inspection procedure (a few years ago), it had them verify serial numbers being approximately sequential and corresponding to the case serial number. Also inspecting the terminal nuts for paint alignment marks. Anything that showed signs of disassembly, etc made it ineligible. Dorman also marks up the modules if I remember correctly. They also install different busbars and use different fasteners. I'm not sure how strict they (Toyota) are nowadays, considering the volume of aftermarket rebuilders.

The new Toyo will need to electronics section from the old battery moved to the new one. I think vent tubes also. And the black plastic air flow blocker by the electronic section. I don't deal with brand new gen 2 batteries often, so that's memory. There are guys here who do a LOT more of them. Maybe they'll chime in. I know it's been covered in a few other threads.

I did this a few months ago. You needs to swap out all of the wiring on the driver side. It’s really simple if you take your time. It’s hard to mess up. I got my full core back. Took me two hours to do the swap and returned the core in 5 hours from picking up.

Tapatalk isn’t letting me upload photos. They give you a brand new cable with the new battery so you replace the whole battery, minus cabling and then return your old cable
