Ordered a JDM horn from Sigma Auto... after two months' wait, I finally have it and....

The instructions are all in Japanese! Oh come on! You've got to be kidding! Their product description said nothing about this. For a completely different product on the same page, they noted that the instructions were in Japanese; it never occurred to me that they simply neglect to mention same for THIS one. What the heck am I going to do? Below are two out of seven pages; the first details things I'm NOT supposed to be doing, and the second something about things that have to come off... I think?

Anyone know how to translate Japanese?

    Ken. . . ?

    :)

I guess I'm lucky enough to work with people from all over the globe. Last month I had a coworker translate some Chinese for me.

Men, hope you finish the install before the October meetup, I wana hear the new "tone" of your Prius....
To remove the front Shroud does take 20 minutes and the top dressing is a quicky 8 snaps fasteners, then the horns are sposed, not a very difficult job, some time consuming hour and a half. God luck ;)

No, I can't translate this for you but IMHO, there looks like plenty of illustrations there to be able to get the job completed. Anyways, I do understand the frustration.....

Well, the pictures look pretty clear, and I never read the directions anyway until I do something, finish, and after it doesn't work, find that I was supposed to tap into the pink wire with the black stripe, not the black wire with the pink stripe...

It's probably a silly question, these are louder horns, or different tone? Thanks.

Those look like pretty straight forward diagrams Scott. Sometimes you gotta just dig in. Take pictures as you go, if necessary, so you can remember what things looked like before you took them off. This should be a very simple install...the hard part being the disassembly and reassembly.

If it helps, I have the Prius CD that has the tech instructions that you can follow to disassemble and has all the wiring instructions

    Scott,

How have you made out so far? I too am considering replacing the original "pipsqueak" horns (new horns sound great on the website demo) with the same ones you bought. I too have the Prius 2006 CD Service manual and can fax you a copy of the pages dealing with horn installion if you want. The service manual shows horn replacement to be fairly simple, not sure why they want you to disconnect battery if you are simply loosening and tightening 2 nuts for the 2 horns and connecting the leads to the horns.

Got them installed, thanks to BobZ.

The installation isn't the same as the standard horns. Because they're differently sized tha the originals, one of the horns is placed in a different location than the stock. In this shot you can see that it actually gets connected to the hood latch assembly.
    No battery disconnection was needed.

Great horn; I've hit it once or twice and thought hey, was that me?

If you have a moment a quick write up would be nice as I'm sure others would like to do this upgrade. I'd be interested in knowing any short cuts or things to watch out for.

Since BobZ did all the work, there isn't much I could contribute to a writeup. He took off the top dressing and worked is hands and the tools down in front of the radiator, taking off the horns one after the other. The instructions have you taking off the front shroud, but he seemed fine doing it without that step.

The plan had been to put both new horns in the same place as the originals, but one horn (the one furthest to the right) won't fit there and was relocated as described.

Seeing it actually done, I could have done it (my main issue is that I have a Murphy's Law thing with car work)--having seen it done, that is.

Be careful, or you might end up building a model of the Tokyo Tower.

I guess I would have to wait 'till next month meet-up to listen to it

You mean the 8th? (it's always a Sunday--2nd Sunday of the month)

There was a mixup and the wrong date was posted, plus lot of people couldn't make it anyway, so it was postponed to the 15th
