Starting my car after 3 months

    Prius 2017’s battery died in May and I didn’t bother to start it after that. It’s been more than three months and I’m planning to start it next week by calling AAA. Most likely I’m expecting he is goi g to change a new 12v battery.

    My question is - should I be prepared to learn hybrid battery is also dead and should be changed. I’m worried if this will be the case. If that’s the case any advices about what I should do and check before changing the battery in a dealership.

    Do you think a 3 year old car will end up in such a state. Please help.

    You could test the battery with the Dr Prius app ($8), you just need a OBD2 adapter (about $25). I have a Veepeak from Amazon.

    I have 2017 too. The 12v battery died on my a couple of times. Just jump start and the hybrid system was fine.

    It should take much longer than 3 months for the hybrid battery to self-discharge too far to start the car. Snowbirds generally don't have this problem, they usually need to deal with only the 12V battery.

    And if the hybrid battery did die (actual failure, not merely discharged), it should still be under warranty, unless you have already rolled up more than 100k miles on the car.

    ISTR reading somewhere that, if it has plenty of charge in it, the Hybrid battery should last 8-10 months before it's too flat to work.

    Your traction battery will be fine, but what would be so bad about Toyota giving you a new one? (assuming less than 100k miles on the car)
