I am in the process of moving from the Seattle area to the "just south of Portland, Oregon" area....Salem for any of those who care.

I am still mostly at the Seattle place, wife is in Oregon. The Oregon house is a house....in a neighborhood....typical suburb sort of thing. It has lawns, landscaping, lawn sprinklers.

Our Seattle place is a bit rural, a few acres, and the landscaping is a bit rustic. We have grass, we have flowers, but not too manicured. The Oregon place is very manicured, but pretty well "planted" with the type of plants that don't really need a lot of fussing.

Anyway, have never "edged" a lawn since moving out of my parent's house at age 18. In those days, you had a stick with a sharp star wheel at the end and you pushed it along and edged between concrete sidewalks and grass.

Nowadays, I see the landscapers using string trimmers to edge. I tried that a couple of days ago with fairly ugly results. I see that there are "power edgers," but not sure about them. Much of my edging will be the edge of the grass to where it meets dirt -- no concrete involved.

I just found this video from this Old House, so think I am going to give his half-moon edger a go. If anyone has any other ideas....

Depends on how much you have to do and how much time you have to do it. If lots of edging and not much time, they sell cord powered steel blade edgers whose blades are replaceable. I have one from 20 years ago that is still working. Question is is it worth getting out the cord and all reachable with 100 feet?

How much linear feet do you have to edge? I have about 150 feet and pay a guy $20 every 2-3 months to just do that.

I have that lawn tool you describe and its labor intensive. Just to hot to do that down here.

I got the edger that matches my EGO mower. After I finish mowing, I pop the battery out of the mower and into the edger. After I edge, I pop the battery out of the edger and into the blower.
