Hi folks, we need an inexpensive bike rack for our 2013 Prius.

I found this one on sale. Will it work, for short distances? And what kind of trailer hitch would I need?

    Thanks

The ad says "Fits 2 in. receiver" but then all the comments say it comes with an adapter, so it sounds like it might be designed for a 1 1/4" receiver. Something to check out. You would need a receiver like this one:

The hitch receiver Johnny linked is the same one we have. Installs in less than 30 min. Super easy.

As long as your bike rack has an adapter for 1-1/4” you’re good. You won’t be able to find a 2” for the prius.

We use a 4 bike Yakima rack and the hitch receiver is solid. Though you said inexpensive, so with the two components, you could get different racks in that price point. The receiver gives more flexibility though (cargo carrier, nothing rubbing on the paint, etc)

For the Prius, your hitch will probably 1 1/4 receiver. I vaguely remember a 2 in hitch for the Prius but most are 1 1/4 in.

Lots of bike racks fit both 1 1/4 and 2 in receivers with an included adapter, mine does.

Yeah, I'm pretty much a moron and installed it with no problem. A second person helps just because it a bit unwieldy.

I was thinking the opposite. Fits 2" with the adapter attached and 1-1/4" without it. That's the way my rack is, but it could be the other way around.

That might be. I’ve seen both ways for adapters. Our particular rack you completely remove the 2” tongue and put on the 1-1/4.

Thanks so much, Johnny Cakes, and others! I've ordered that hitch (the same one on Amazon Canada for $191 Can) and the bike rack. I'm pleased at the price point, and I appreciate the help here.

Thanks again for the input, folks. I did buy the Curt hitch, and everywhere I read says it's an easy install. I found it almost impossibly hard to get the bolts on the driver's side threaded up through the tiny plastic hole in the undercarriage. Good thing my neighbour had a socket wrench set with lots of different adapters, etc.

If I had a hoist or something, or had jacked the car up it would have been easier. Doing it laying on the ground was a grunt-fest. Just saying.

Thanks again for the help! The rack I posted seems solid and great for 2 bikes, and a steal at $70 Can.
