My screen is doing funny things. When you touch a control button , no beep and the image will show up moments later. same with turning off. Also, the same when you touch the screen buttons.
When I am in the ice/batt screen. the wheels are moving but the other arrows and battery fill indicator are not working.
Any ideas what's goin on here? I have had the car over a year now with no problems. Tomorrow I have an appointment with Toyota.

There are display problems and you may need a new MFD...but the behavior you describe is not typical of the usual problems.

Let us know what they find...

A button may be stuck. Check all the buttons on the bezel that none are stuck down. Also check the buttons on the steering wheel.

However, that doesn't quite explain the lack of energy flow display while cruising with power.

Went to Toyota and the tech took one look at the screen, pressed a few buttons and ordered me a new one. Said there were connection problems with the MFD and Toyota knows about it and has already corrected the fault on the '05s. So your screen could go anytime if this problem shows up. It's under warrantee, so T pays all!

this is a very late reply .... maybe i should take it as good news that there aren't that many posts about this topic.

just had the same problem described in the prior email - erratic MFD behavior. toyota has elected to replace the MFD. haven't got the car back yet. they've had it 4 days (over the weekend). hope to get it back monday.

I've got a 2004 Prius with about 50,000 miles on it and the same screen info on/off happened to me. Took it to my dealer yesterday and the rep said I needed a new one for: $4,400.00!!! Luckily, it's covered under my extended warranty.

I had a similar problem, but after the warranty expired. I call the toyota people, fussed a little and they agreed to and did reimburse me for a rebuilt display.

$4k would be the price of a new MFD. The $400 quoted here is for a refurbished one.

Makes it worth getting the extended warranty - this failure more than covers its cost.

For $4400, I want a 60 inch Plasma screen. Or six 10 inch plasmas.

$4400 would buy a lot of books, too...
    (I don't watch TV).

The $4400 quote was from Lawrence Toyota in central New Jersey. Seems blatantly excessive for something as electronically sophisticated as a Nintendo. The rep said "The part alone costs $4100...." which means that the installation charges, estimated at 12 minutes (.2 hours), are $300. So what percentage of that $4400 represents pure profit? Could Toyota be getting too greedy?

After this experience, I'm planning to dump my Prius when it gets close to the expiration of the extended warranty. Maybe have a look at the clean honda diesels.
