Looking at a Juice Box 9.6 kw 50 amp. How much should expect to pay to get it wired in? I currently charge with 110 volt with the cord that came with the car.

It varies signficantly, based upon where your service-panel is and if it has capacity avaiable. You may also have added expense to connect to a time-of-use discount program, but those tend to offer an upfront rebate.

You should also make the decision of whether there will ever be a second vehicle charging at the same time. For us, we had conduit setup for 2 separate 14-50 lines & outlets. That saved some money having it all done at once.

Thanks.. We have good capacity with our 200 amp service panel and it is only about 6 ft from the panel to the car. Our electric company does not offer time of use discount.. wish it did. Thanks for your response.

Right next to the panel will be as low as possible for materials and labor. There could also be permitting fees.

Mine will cost about $4000 but it is 50 feet away from the panel. Yeah, if it's close to the panel the cost should be minimal.

I just had my charger installed 2 days ago by an electrician and the run from panel was about 20 feet and he charged me 400 labor and materials. I picked up a used ClipperCreek HCS-40P, 240V, 32A, EV Charging Station, with 14-50 Plug, 25 ft Cable, Safety Certified, Made in America cost of 180 dollars, sorry about the large text I copy pasted it. Nice to reduce the charge time from 5 hr 50 mins to 1 hr 50 mins.

Save all your receipts from your electricians and cost of the EVSE's. You can all likely get a percentage of that back at tax time if work is completed in 2020. Doing that saved me $700 in 2017.

My garage is on the opposite side of the house from my panel so I have not looked into prices, but, ouch!! I’m probably done buying ICE cars so this is something more to think about as an upcoming expense.

Well, the quote is not for just installing a 240v outlet. The line is under the paved driveway between the house where the main panel is and the garage. It includes trenching the blacktop driveway and laying a new line and refinishing the driveway. Also, the price includes installing a sub-panel since the main panel is completely full. Since the quote was written, I have learned that the conduit that is under the driveway is big enough to replace the existing 20A line without digging it out. If they can just fish the line through the existing conduit, it will be much cheaper, but still in ~$2500 range.

My panel is on the far corner of the basement of the part of the house that has a basement. The garage is attached to the opposite corner of the part of the house that is built on a cement platform. The route will either be through two separate attic sections or outside underground around the house and under either a fairly wide sidewalk or a large patio.
On the other hand, My neighbor’s power line comes in underground right between my garage and his house so I wonder if I can tap in there and just have a small second panel for the garage.

If you can, then you don't have to pay for electricity for your new panel. It's your neighbor's power line. lol
Subpanel still has to be off from your main panel, it's just an expansion. In my case, I have to connect that sub panel to the main panel with a 50 feet underground line. Sound like in your case, the line either has to go in the attic or maybe some crawl space if that is accessible.

Theoretically, you can do that but I wouldn't. Tapping off the incoming line before the meter is called cable hooking and accounts for about 80% of electricity theft. Getting caught leads to either fines or imprisonment.

I figured the line would be split before getting to his meter and, obviously, I would have my own meter. One thing certain, is that I would hire someone to come in and advise either way.

I'm guessing that will be very expensive. What you'll need is a second service entrance with it's own meter and panel. Then you'll have two electric bills every month and pay two service fees every month.

It'll be way cheaper to just run a line from the existing panel to the garage. If the basement is unfinished, then it's a piece of cake. If it's finished then it would be easier to got through the attic. Or you could use surface mount conduit/raceway in the basement if it's finished. That way you don't have to do nearly as much cutting, drilling, or fishing.

Maybe so, but we have two separate attics and a high ceiling in between plus the basement doesn’t extend to the garage area (water table is elevated under the garage and attached area). Heck, I don’t know which way is best but it’ll be expensive. I wasn’t thinking about future electric car outlets when I bought the house, but I wouldn’t have bought the Prime if it couldn’t plug into existing outlets.

Ouch. That is a tough situation. Our previous house had cathedral ceilings. I had to go up there for a couple electrical mods I made. I wasn't 100% sure I'd get out alive.

If you have two outlets close enough to each other that are on opposite phases, there is a way to make an adapter that you would plug into each of those outlets. The hots on the two outlets being on opposite sides of the incoming power would give you 240V. But only enough power to charge the Prime; not enough for the Juice Box to use 50A to charge a BEV or something. So, it would just be a stopgap measure.
