    See post 10 attachment which includes step by step and part numbers. No headliner removal, just pull it down a little in the back. Maybe two hours work, mainly fiddling with panels in the hatch area.

    Thanks.

    With only the Atlantic Ocean to my South, it would not re-authorize from Channel 1 fading in and out.

    If I can find a used, working antenna with pigtail, I may give it an afternoon of attention, but not at the $200 listed price.

    My conclusion: XM satellite radio is not ready for prime time.

    The video was me using the free xm app that is included with an over the air subscription. What I was suggesting is you could get xm over your phone, tablet or computer without buying the antenna base. Bluetooth it or usb cable it to the headunit if desired.

    XM from a price standpoint is a bit of a luxury but its a luxury you can get for five or six dollars a month for a subset of channels. Its great if you drive a lot or you can't stand commercial radio or repeated tracks from your phone library.

    It is possible to get a generic magnetic antenna for a few dollars that is solid because it does not have a preamp that Toyota added in order to remote mount the antenna. You have to buy an obscure adapter cable (post 6) for the mini coax on the back of the head unit and then route the magnetic antenna to the corner of the dash, much as the gen2 xm installations were done.

    The Toyota antenna base has the xm preamp, a separate am antenna and on some models the cellular interface for emergency use. So it has three versions as described in the post 10 attachment.
