How do I Disable Tire Pressure Monitor Light?

If the Idaho laws are like Montana, TAKE THEM OFF in the summer ! ! ! Why do you think are roads look so nasty?! It's the folks that leave them on all year, and never get a ticket. sheesh! My suggestion for defeating the sensor? Trade me your newer model for our '04. We didn't get the sensor. Then you can go merily on your way, digging up the asphalt in the summer

Sounds like someone is a little confused on the correct answer.
he wants 2 different sets of both wheels and tires so he dosent have to remount the tires onto the same rim every 6 months. And because he wants a totally different set of wheels, he dosent want to buy TPS's for the 2nd set. Sheesh!!

If for some reason you cannot read what galaxee wrote, if you store your TPMS equipped wheels within 60 feet of where you park your car, your car will think they are still mounted. It seems to take a while for the car to realize that the sensors are not on the car so the warning light does not come on right away when you leave the garage.

You could also transfer the sensors to the other set of wheels, but this is more trouble.

You could put a piece of black tape over the indicator on the dash.

You could just ignore the dash indicator

The easiest way to deal with it is; buy a small tractor tire or ? , insert all the sensors inside tire, air it up and place it in trunk, a storage bin or somewhere, There is a wire going into ECU that needs to be grounded to turn off the light but not sure what wire it would be on a Prius

I can personally vouch for the high quality of this product.

 

From reading most of the threads, this looks like TPMS is a nice feature to have, but IMO is not worth the expense to keep it going should something happen to one of the sensors. This is the first car I've owned with this feature, and have survived the last 49 years of driving. To bad, you can't just turn it off like the SKS. The OEM valve stems must have a gasket of some sort; do these ever require replacement?

 

So, to net out everythiing that has been posted to date, there is no way to disable/turn off the indicator light for the TPMS warning (absent getting another set of TPMS sensors and re-programing the new sensors into the system) ? Note that I am referring to disable or turn off, not cover over.

When you say "no way" you cover a lot of terretory.

The TPMS ECU is behind the MFD. If you can reach up behind there and unplug the power from it, it will no longer function. If you do that be prepared to plug it back in when you want it to function later. The alternative to reaching up back there appears to be a total dash disassembly including removal of the MFD.

It does not appear that Toyota provided a switch to turn the TPMS off if that is what you mean.

How about pulling a fuse? Is there a single fuse that provides power to the TPMS? And hopefully doesn't supply power to anything else....

I have looked through the TM section of the '06 Manuel and I couldn't find any reference to a fuse. A lot of what the Manuel says is trouble shooting.

Galaxee didn't mention anything about fuses in her summary. She would be a good source if not the best for an answer to this question. I am all elbows when it comes to things electrical.

 

sorry to sound dumb but what is an mfd and where is it located?

 

MFD is the Multi Function Display- the screen in the center of the dash for the radio, climate controls, and energy meter.

Anything technical just ain't complete unless it's got lots of acronyms.
