My dealership is charging me $2400 to replace my 2007 Prius exhaust system and 02 sensor. It seems outrageous to pay this amount considering how old my car is. The car has been good to me but I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone can share if this is reasonable. Not sure what to do?

    Welcome to PriusChat!!
How many miles on the vehicle?

Was the catalytic converter stolen, or just old an tired?

Do you plan on keeping the vehicle for more than a few years?

The amount being charged by the dealer is in the ballpark, but since you don't live in CA, NY, or Maine, you could find a local muffler shop and have them install a less expensive $200-$500 aftermarket product, plus labor and other related parts and possibly save a couple of grand, but that setup will not last like an OEM, which was designed to work for 15 years and 150k miles.

Of course Chicago is quite different in many ways, and someone likely knows more about the current emission requirements there.

Thanks for the response. My Prius has 138,000 miles. I'm not sure about the catalytic converter but I'd say its old. The car suddenly made a very loud noise when power was turned on and the car was driving slow. The service guy told me it could run another 100,000 miles.

Most likely stolen then. If it sounded like a harley or a tank, then someone has borrowed your catalytic converter. Best not to spend 3k on a replacement only to have the same person come back and steal it again next week/month.

Call around to the various muffler shops for pricing, then check their reviews or visit the shop in person before committing.
