Seemingly randomly I got this error msg on the audio screen yesterday. I had been listening to the radio and radio was on (when I started the car) and I was unable to adjust volume or use any other function. The car is new to me from a dealer with 20k miles and aside of being worried that something is terribly wrong with the car, I would like to have all the functions back. Any advice, anyone know if this has an easy fix? A major lemon issue? The car I have is actually a 2013 plug in , for some reason not an option that I can see in my profile. I have owned 2002 and 2007 prius (pri-I?) and was looking forward to a long and happy relationship with this new to me car. I did slip a cd in and on start up audio now plays the cd, but error msg went from EC 11D to EC123...............any and all advice gratefully received.

PS have not used any USB port, but did connect phone to bluetooth last although did not use it much.

It is not nice to post the exact same question in more than one place on here.
    It just confuses matters.

sorry Sam, I am new here and it was recommended that I post it on plug in thread- as the other related post was so old , there is very little online about this issue anywhere. As an update- I was just going to plug in my iphone via usb charger and on starting the car the screen was normal looking! I ejected the disk and audio is off.... I will be watching it, bringing into dealer and updating here in case others have this issue.

Bisco, up until now all seemed normal, only radio issue was XM trial was part of the 'deal' but never started. I doubt that is related to this.

Any recommendation on how to point somebody from the Newbie forum to the correct place where the answers may be? In this case there are two places where most of the needed expertise resides.
    I am open to suggestions.

maybe try resetting the head unit by pulling a fuse if you can find it, or disconnecting the 12v negative for a few minutes. does the cd eject?

The CD did eject today, but last night when all this happened it would not. Today I am working from home and I am in no mood to go driving around (or sit in the driveway) just to test out what will or wont work, or if the same malfunction will happen again. I found two places online that addressed this issue- one on this forum. If there is one I missed please link it here. However the conclusion, the full picture, the risk of continued problems and the 'fix' are not out there as far as I can find.

Not sure I understand the question.
You tell him to go LOOK there for answers.
Or if you are a moderator, you MOVE his post to a more appropriate sub-forum.

I told him where to look with two links. I am not a moderator, just trying to help a newbie.

I know this an old post, but I am also getting "insert correct storage media" error EC123 on my radio when I power on my car. I have a 2012 Prius and it started doing it random and now it does that most of the time when the car is powered on. I have tried ejecting cd's and usb and it will still do it. Also tried unplugging head unit with out any success.

Does anyone have any ideas what the fix is?

Is there a good aftermarket head unit that will display all the fuel consumptions etc that the OEM one does?

I've had this problem for months and its getting worse. Sometimes I have to start the car 5 times to make it go away. The only fix I've seen anywhere is a person took it to a dealer, and they told him they had to replace the entire audio system. Sounds like a huge, expensive fix to me. Not really excited about doing that. Is that what its going to have to be?

OK, here is the no shit answer to solving this problem. First, try disconnecting the 12 volt battery for 10 minutes and see if that fixes it. It usually won't, but that is recommended by Toyota mechanics and you might as well shoot for the easy fix. If that doesn't fix it, a dealership will remove and replace the head unit. A similar type fix on a Toyota 4 Runner was recently quoted nearby as $1,700. A much cheaper fix is a shop that specializes in fixing vehicle radios. I suspect that not all cities will have one. In the Sacramento region there is a shop called Radio Medics. I went there and they removed my radio head, and then I drove home. Next week they called me, I went in, and they reinstalled my radio head. Cost was $325. Not cheap, but way cheaper than the $1700 or so to have a dealer remove and replace. So the answer is take it to a vehicle radio specialist. Hopefully there will be one in your area.
