I made a custom "giraffe" based on a pin in the Toyota Discord by HubbleSphere, he had a parts list and wiring diagram and it wasnt too hard to do. I have a Grey Panda, thats hidden in the headliner, not sure if you have a Black Panda.

The only thing you can see is the USB that connects to the Comma.ai. I keep telling myself I'm going to tap into a power wire up there, but never do. I still have this OBD2 power wire which runs around the headliner, down the A-pillar and into the OBD2 port. It is a bit overkill to get 12V, it ties up the OBD2 port and there's a source right up there by the mirror.

I got the comma 2. It's a little more compact, but still a pain to get the cover back on, but i did it. Only usb c wire showing. I put whats probably the black panda above the rearview mirror, under the cover. The parts arent labeled anymore, except the harness and comma power. But I'm assuming the little black box is a panda.

The thing you put above the cover is the harness. The comma power is the thing you stick in the obd port, and the black panda is built into the case of the comma 2 now.

I have the 2018 Prius 4 and have the Comma AI installed for about 2 months.....over 6 thousand miles on it already. So far I love the thing. It works best on the highway but even the back roads with no lane lines, it works amazingly well. It makes driving on long trips so much easier and to me it is amazing how much effort is removed from keeping in the lane.....it can become very tiring to always have to stay in your lane and to pay attention to the car in front of you. On long trips you really notice that you are not as tired.
The Toyota Safety Sense works fantastic with the Comma AI. I won't drive without it now. It does about 95% of my driving.

No but if the road is too extreme in the curve, it will tell you and it is very easy to correct by just grabbing the steering wheel. It has warned me on some of the exit ramps on some interstates that have a big circle that have extreme curves in them. I have not found that to be a problem.

Do the regular (non-Prime) Prius 2019/20 have the new steering sensor as well, or just the Prime?

I have the comma ai 2 installed on my 2017 prius prime. Makes a big difference in driving on the HIGHWAY in fair weather condition (no rain). There is less fatigue. Base on my experience, the times I had to hold on the steering wheel OR disengage by accelerating/braking on some of the circumstances below:
    1) Really sharp curve
    2) Being on a lane that splits on the interstate.
    3) Vehicles trying to merge into the highway: sometimes I brake/accelerate or change lanes to let other vehicle in.
    4) Vehicles exiting the highway: a couple of times it seems like open pilot tried to follow the vehicle in front of me to the exit.
    5) Sometimes when I see vehicles cutting: but I found that Open Pilot reacts to this well.
    6) Construction zone/narrow lane: I still have it "on" but I hold the steering wheel.
    7) Passing 18-wheelers or other wide vehicles on the left lane: usually when I pass these types of vehicle, I drive closer to the left line markings; but with Open pilot, it centers the car: yes, I still have plenty of space between me and the other vehicle, but I just want a little more space.
    8) When open pilot doesn't "see" the lanes well and I think it doesn't center it well.
    9) All lane changes
--maybe there are other circumstances that I don't remember.

Re-engaging after disengagement is easy: just resume cruise control.
I don't know if it does 95% of my driving, but it probably does > 80% of my driving on the highway. Regardless, it is an excellent system.
On the highway, I think it is as good as Tesla basic autopilot (not FSD version that you have to pay an extra $8K). No phantom braking. (I tried to google "open pilot and phantom braking" and I couldn't find a single link on the first 3 pages of results...there were more, but looking at the first 3 is good enough sample for me). No nagging. Your hands can be off the steering wheel for minutes to more than 1 hour, depending on the road and situation. I don't think there is another system that allows you to do this. Kia/Hyundai system nags you. For $1200 total: it is a pretty good deal. What George Hotz has been able to do with Comma AI is pretty amazinng.
-Is this a perfect system? No. But I don't let "perfect be the enemy of good."

I enjoy having the COMMA AI don’t ever put your guard down but technology has been amazing! I have logged 13k miles on the comma unit. It seriously helps with driver fatigue. Hwy driving is where it shines best. I agree with your post!

Not an issue any more but you will have to see if a 2016 will even work. It needs Toyota Safety sense 1.0 at least. Check with comma website.

I had a question from yall taller drivers. I'm 6'4", is the comma obtrusive and block your view? How is it for emergency braking as well? One last question that I can't seem to find the answer for, does the comma allow you to use android auto on the main headunit? I didn't know if I needed one of those adapters as well.
