Trading in my 2011. It’s a 2, in very good condition with 147,000 miles. There is a wide range from kbb, so how do you know what to settle for?

Check out KBB and NADA. If you really want top dollar, do not trade it in. If it's in good condition, sell it to an individual. A little extra effort/time cleaning/shining and sales efforts will always do considerably better that "giving" it to a car dealer.

Trading in is difficult since the dealer can play how much to allow for the trade in vs. cost of new car. They can give you more for the trade in if you pay list price of the new car. They balance profit from both vehicles. Of course they will try to get you to pay top dollar for the new car and give you low dollar on the trade in. Check with multiple dealers. If selling the old car yourself you will get more money for it than trading it in. Check local craigs list for selling prices. Tell us what you are looking to buy and the offer from the dealer for new car and trade in.
