I have a 2005 Prius with push button start. When I push the start button nothing happens. When I have my key imto slut, the only light that will come on the dash is the door ajar light. When I press the brake pedal I hear the motor noise from the engine compartment, but when I push the start button nothing at all happens. I pulled B2289. I read I should check continuity between the power source ECU and the key transponder ECU. I cannot locate the Key transponder ECU. I have the dash torn down and a picture of where this ECU should be, but it's not there! I have checked all fuses and I have power at the AM1 and AM2 fuse.

The Repair Manual (more info) for model year 2005 doesn’t show the exact location of the transponder key ECU or give removal instructions. For model year 2008, however, the Repair Manual shows that it’s behind the air conditioner unit assembly, and if you don’t see it elsewhere, that’s probably where it is. I imagine this is by design, to make tampering labor-intensive as a deterrent to theft.
In the Repair Manual, under Engine Immobilizer System, see the Power Source Circuit pages, which show that the power supplies for the transponder key ECU also go through the P CON MAIN and IGN fuses. Before doing further teardown, I’d confirm that power is present at center connector no. 1, terminal 4D-3, and that terminal 4D-13 is connected to body ground.

I also highly recommend reviewing Section 7 of Smart Key System: Course T973B Handbook, available by subscription to techinfo.toyota.com.
