    Hello All,
Does anyone know if there are any secrets about the key fob? Can it do anything else besides opening doors and starting?

    nope.

there is a secret key inside:) and an rfid chip in case the battery dies, it will still start the car.

and you can use it to change the door unlock settings.

Your manual should tell all. Is this for a 4th Gen or a 3rd Gen? You profile shows a 2012, but it's in the 4th Gen forum. I don't know whether or not there were changes in 2016. Here's a shot from my Prime manual that shows what mine can do:

You can turn smart entry off on the fob by holding the lock button and pressing the unlock button twice. It'll turn back on next time you press any button.

Yep, Gen 4 drivers get the pauper edition. But, we can close and open the windows remotely - except in USA where they can only open them remotely.

Gen 3 with solar roof, I believe had that button.

In the UK the remote window controls are off by default. I used Carista to activate and configure mine. Can you not do that in the US too?

Do the windows in the US detect something in their path when closing and automatically retract back down a bit?

That's why I asked if the US market had the safety system that prevents exactly that.

Yep - there was a discussion when Gen 4 first came out - I'd had it on previous cars since 2008, so when I bought my PRIUS I told the salesman that I buy it on 2 conditions:
    • the reverse beeper changed to a single beep; and
    • the UP/DOWN remote be activated.
I commented that it had been done free, and work fine, but some USA owners said that legally it can't be done for closing - and TOYOTA had deleted that option in USA.

In reality - I find I often walk up to a hot car and put the windows DOWN - but rarely put them up using the remote.
