    i can see a implementation and continuance of many alternative fuel incentives, but i don't see big oil going down without a fight. congress will be interesting.

    I’d much rather cut back the incentives for fossil fuels than an increase in incentives for renewables.

    Exactly... If you calculated the long term cost of climate change into each gallon of gas we'd have to pay $50 a gallon and that would drive a switch to electric faster than any incentive to lower price of electric.

    I also rather see the taxes on hybrids eliminated and the hybrid/plug in incentives reduced or made to apply only to specific (lower) income brackets.
    Also all makers should get the subsidy or none, should pull from one pool instead of a unique pool for each maker

    China is starting to import low to moderate performance, affordable EVs (like the earlier 'compliance' cars.) Range limited to urban areas, they provide affordable, personal transportation. I'm not tempted but observing the Kandi and Arcimoto. The gray area between motorcycles and 'entry' cars is seeing early entrants.

    Sticking with tax credits won't help the lower incomes, though it might be excluded from the upper upper incomes, if what Biden says makes it to law.

    He wants it to prioritize made in America models. So it won't help the Prius Prime, nor the incoming Chinese models.

    A straight on payment to the individual or being able to roll the “credit “ year to year would help with the income divide.

    A straight 1 time rebate for 1st time low income buyers of a used PHEV/BEV might help as well.

    My main concern is that BEV/PHEVs in many areas aren’t cost competitive on fuel and ongoing ownership costs compared to a plain econobox (taking up front price out)
    You can’t expect meat and potatoes owners to ever buy one as long as that continues and gets worse due to state to state variations.

    What kind of incentives for fossil fuels are there now? Are they specific to oil companies and not for consumers? Yeah, I would love to see the gas price go up above $3/gal soon so that driving on EV becomes more economical for me.

    I think it was more nuanced and life-long Democratic Wash DC insider style that goes like:

    "We need to put oil companies out of business, but we value them and their campaign contributions so we'll put that off for another year or two or three or four. Because you know we just started fundraising for 2024 and maybe oil companies want to be part of it? Or perhaps the oil companies would like to invest in one our inauguration parties?

    It was fairly clear that he was talking about a long term transition process, elsewhere clarified as 30 years, far far longer that he could possibly be in office. And that he was referring to the energy side of the business, not petrochemical.

    Here is a even handed paper on the subject. About a quarter way down is the detailed list, but the paper as a whole is a good read.

    While those listed are part of it, I think the biggest subsidies fossil fuel companies get are dodging the externalized costs.
    They increase the medical costs to society, yet don’t pay that cost. This is before we even start to consider the even bigger costs of climate change.

    Maybe, maybe not.
    And it depends partly on your definition of "a lot cheaper".

    sadly, incentives often give rise to abuse. Our 8 KW AC rated solar is a great example. Since we got a huge amount of cost relief, the installers use the opportunity to jack up their fees. Same thing with our original 2010 install of a 240-volt evse.

    i hate smog as much or more as the next person, and pour ice efficiency, but considering how seriously our fake paper dollar currency is inextricably linked to Mideast oil sales, you kill off oil, & you basically kill any remaining value in our already worthless paper currency. Yeah do away with all oil sales - that plan's going to do just great. You don't "just" kick a serious heroin habit.

    I would just like a fair annual EV tax. In Alabama, I pay as much as 10,000 gallons of gas taxes. Of course I’m not buying gasoline. Still, the high rate is just a hippy/liberal punishment tax.

    Of course it is. :eek:
    And the high motor fuel taxes in Europe for maybe the last 30 or so years are too.
    But they have worked very good for the intended purpose.
