We lost her baby. She had an off-road excursion and ended up in a cable barrier and took out the 6 month old fender, headlight, and bumper cover and then got into the hood, windshield, and A-pillar. Had it not been for the A-pillar and windshield, we could have fixed it. I taped the edge of the windshield and we drove it for over a week until the truck came to take it to the disposal auction. The Gen IV engine never missed a beat. Maybe somebody with half a brain will be inspecting and bidding and can get a great deal.
The bright side is I get to clean out the spare parts left over from the engine swap. We are looking at either Gen IV or scandal era VW TDI. I've got great help with the VW side and have asked for guidance on the GEn IV forum.

Long time lurker, first time poster!
I've had my 2010 Prius for about 2 years now, and have been meaning to sign up. I've benefited from the incredible amount of useful information about these Gen3's and their problems.

After all of the EGR cleaning/swapping/catch-can preventative maintenance and tune-ups, I now have the dreaded busted headgasket issue and am researching Gen4 engine swaps (I am tempted to do the headgasket change myself, but I still have the high oil-loss/consumption issue to deal with and might as well just swap the engine out )

This is the post that's made me sign up to further utilize the site.

@FnRedPrius Sorry to hear about your loss!

...may I ask for further info on this junkyard in Clayton? Is it worth grabbing this engine after its recent crash? Is there still a chance to give them a ring and see if this car/engine is still available?

It went to Sadisco. They do the auctions for the insurance companies for totaled vehicles. Looking on Ebay for used 2ZR engines is a great resource. The one I dropped in was from a total loss with less than 6K miles. You can call Sadisco and see if they still have it and how to bid. It belongs to Erie Insurance. I doubt that anyone will really pick up on the GenIV engine.
