Hi I have a 2014 prius c. With 105, 000 miles. It was working perfectly until today I put in premium gas. Not sure that's what it caused but now there's a message check hybrid battery. Po84a code. Also on idle it is not going to charge mode. It stays on gas all the time. And on the drive information it says ev but no % being used. On the energy monitor I can see the battery bar is 4 bars at least. But no energy is working. It's just still on the energy monitor. Any idea if this is the hybrid battery or something else? Worth going to dealer to get it checked out? Will the car eventually shut off if I keep driving if that message comes? Thanks

I'm not much of help when it comes to codes. hopefully someone will chime in here.

But I will say that the Prius C hybrid battery seems (around here anyways) to have about a 5 year life. Toyota's warranty is 8 years/100,000 miles. While your over, your barely over that limit. If the hybrid battery does need to be replaced hopefully they will goodwill warranty some of it.

I would not drive the vehicle however. If it says stop immediately, I'd adhere to that. lol After all, it's telling you that for a reason.

Is it possible a cable got disconnected while driving which is causing it to not making the electric engine start? This literally just happened while I was driving after I hit a pot hole

Update : prius tech checked it. ( not the Toyota dealer). And said 6 of my cells were low. He said I can continue driving it. It's not an emergency but the " check hybrid system immediately" message will stay on. I decided to get it fixed. Quoted me $850

So what did they do for $850???

That fan is below the back seat right behind the driver and can be cleaned in less than 10 min. If I recall correctly, I do believe I have read here on PriusChat that others had gotten that message when the fan was clogged as well. Hopefully that's all it was.

But wow = $850 out the door.

Go back right away and find out exactly what they did for $850 and have them check codes and make sure what they did was good.

Soo.... He rechecked it and said "all the batteries are in the right voltage. But it maybe a ecu issue or rebalancing the batteries because he didn't get to do that last time. He said" bring it tomorrow morning " no additional pay needed since it's in the warranty

Surpringly, when he got redone checking and gave my keys back, the" check hybrid system immediately " message dissappeared. And everything is back to normal. However I have a feeling that message will pop up again today or anytime.

So giving the car tomorrow morning

Just a heads up. If you end up needing to replace the hybrid battery. Go with a new Toyota battery. Don't waste your money on the rebuilt one's. Literally hundreds of threads on here of people going the "rebuilt" route only to end up with another failed battery within the year.

I'm not sure how much the C's battery is at the moment. But you have a car with some low mileage. Get that battery replaced and you'll be running for another 150 k

Looks like it is just barely out of warranty- take it to Toyota and see if they will work with you anyway. They've done it before, though they are under no obligation.

If the battery pack has failed I also suggest replaceing the whole assembly with a Toyota OEM unit.

I purchased mine from LKQ w/ low milage for $850+tax.

Took us less than 90 mins. to install using hand tools.
