    20201128_015215.jpg I bought a 2007 Prius for $700. The vehicle is going smoothly, but the warning lights are on. How can I solve it? I'm going to buy an Odb2. Thank you for everything. [IMG]

    Make sure you buy the right OBD2... Dr. Prius app created a buyer's guide here: Hybrid battery diagnostic and repair tool for Toyota and Lexus

    Once you know your error codes, come back here and let us know and we'll see how we can help... Also give us a sense of how much DIY you're open to versus hiring someone else?

    Most common are bad hybrid battery or engine is failing and eats oil bad
    And most common are inverter coolant pump has failed.
    ThAts easy to check start car and open the cap on the inverter coolant reservoir and see if it’s moving. No movement pump bad.

    hybrid battery failure is easy to see look at the mfd screen the screen right above the radio if it has a red outline of a car in the top corner of the screen the hybrid battery has failed. Welcome to the party pal.

    It's an honor to meet you. I'll let you know as soon as obd gets it. I'm going to check the reservoir fluid now.

    I checked the reservoir. I opened the lid, I couldn't see any liquid in it, it looks like there's another lid. What's it going to look like?

    I looked at the OBD pick-up guide, but I wasn't sure. Can I use this odb to control the battery?

    And to mention, the mpg value is very low. It's under 30. When I stop at a red light, the car engine works. I think the battery's dead. I'm not sure, I won't know without checking.

    As I think about it, I write about the problems I see. When I start the vehicle, the back (I think the battery cooler fan) fan is working. And it never closes. When I shut down the car, it shuts down. When I hit the brakes, I hear what sounds like a thin fuse sizzing. I know there's a lot of trouble. But I only bought it for $700, and I'm a student. I'm new to America. I'm trying to keep up.

    Not sure what you mean by OBD controlling the battery, but yes, if the battery is not working well it will allow you to clear the battery error codes so it will work again until it detects the same error codes again.

    The inverter coolant reservoir tank is just to the left of the square silver cover under the hood. There touching each other.
    It’s a small white plastic tank with a black cap. Should be filled to the top with red fluid. With the car on that fluid should show movement like it’s being pumped.

    Yes, this liquid is on the move. Today the battery is constantly running out. Time and time again, it's completely empty. I think the battery's all dead. Because the power of the car is too low. Do you think it's worth it if I buy a new battery? I don't know what the prices are. But I can change it myself.

    Yes it has a bad hybrid battery like many on this site. Theirs hundreds of posts about that on this site. That's why the car was dumped.

    Not knowing your skill level with electronics its difficult to recommend a battery path if you can rebuild it or not.
    But at 250,000 miles on the car it may not be worth repairing.
    I can tell you though the catalytic converter posted on ebay alone is worth $1200 to California residents then you can part out the rest of the car. The hybrid battery is worth $100-200 to a hybrid battery guy.
    A car brought to the recycle crusher where I live is worth $450. So just doing those few things you can double your money real fast and get on with your life.

    But stop asking questions and start reading all the posts in the G2 forum to formulate your plan.

    IF:
    • The car has overall low(ish) miles (< 150,000 miles);
    • The car is in pristine, or at least above average, condition;
    • You intend to keep the car 10 years or more;
    then yes, it is a good idea. If you do the work yourself you can buy a new aftermarket battery from newpriusbatteries.com for $1600 shipped to your door and you get to keep your old modules to sell or keep. You can buy a new OEM for $1950 (sometimes better) from Toyota plus taxes plus a refundable core charge of $1350 which you will get back when you return your old battery core. Neither option is plug and play, both require levels of disassembly and reuse of part from the old battery but it is not so complicated. Focus on electrical safety and use the correct PPE.

    These are the only 2 options for new batteries.

    DO NOT be tempted to buy a secondhand (aka reconditioned, rebuilt, remanufactured) battery, while these usually are plug and play, you do not know what you are actually getting except for the fact it will contain many years old secondhand modules that may last 6 months to 2 years. Reports have come in that some don't even last a week without more battery problems rearing their head. If you do this and later decide to buy a new OEM, you may have problems with Toyota accepting the old core and so cost you $1350 for the privilege.

    I hope this helps.

    I saw a cylinder 1 misfire at the beginning. I cleaned up the bugs and waited. And these mistakes are coming continuously

    If you can read the error codes with Dr. Prius app instead of Torque app you'll be better off... It's in the special features section. Torque app is not programmed to read Prius hybrid codes and sub-codes and Dr. Prius app is. Sometimes we have folks on here try to fix the wrong thing on their car because and incompatible OBD2 code reader gave the incorrect information.

    There are definitely 2 error codes. After deleting the error codes, these codes appear again. First one is p0a80 second one is p3021. Looks like one cell died in the battery. Cell 11. I don't see any more problems. I'm going to try to change that.
