Hey all, first time poster after lurking. And oh boy, do I have a doozy for yall. Last Wednesday, on November 25th, my dash lit up briefly, and after I pulled over and shut off the vehicle and sat for a moment, everything went off and all was fine. Then, on the 26th, I noticed the HVB fan was blowing loudly and then the Exclamation Point Light, VSC, CEL, and the dreaded Red Triangle of Death all come on. Today, my OBD2 reader came in, and the current codes I'm getting are P1121 (inverter pump I'm fairly confident I can replace myself), P0A80, and P2322-2324. My question is this. Should I just go ahead and trade in the car as is? I bought it back in March and already had to replace the actuator for nearly what I paid for the car, and if this is the HVB, I'll be paying over the amount for the vehicle in just repairs. Also, I would like to know what all these extremely high volts are and if I need to stop driving stat before I set my whole car on fire or if its just the OBD2 reader as it was a $15 off Amazon.

Also, one other thing, the ABS and Brake lights came on today after using the OBD2 reader while trying to see if the volts changed to something much more normal. Miles are at 188K, 2007 is the year model.

    Thank you for your time,

yes, if you can't afford to properly maintain the car, your best bet is trading it in asap for something newer.

i would not drive it if it were mine, but i can afford not to.

    Welcome to PriusChat!!
Which 'extremely high volts' are you talking about?

Did you purchase a recommended OBD2 reader or something else?

Many DIY enthusiasts prefer using a 'mini-vci' cable and a copy of techstream (dealer tech software) on a windows device.

One of the OBD2 codes (DTCs) that you've retrieved (DTC P0A80) indicates a failing HV battery, the other DTCs you've posted don't appear to be valid, could you please rescan and post the DTCs again for further guidance.

I've noticed brake issues and on dash warning lights in two different vehicles when using a subpar reader, which is why I now no longer drive with one installed. That said, I'm also unsure if driving around with a recommended OBD2 scanner installed is advisable.

Rather than tagging onto another person's thread (called hijacking), start a thread of your own with all the details of your car and its symptoms.

A good place to start is to have all the codes read and post them in your first post. Warning lights are not really useful, because all they tell you is the ECU that the light relates to has some diagnostic information to tell you. Therefore it is not a lot of use titling a thread with this light is on or that light is on; a better idea is to find the code or codes and title your thread with that or those.

If you have lights on the dash, you have codes. The code reader you are using is not able to interrogate all of the Prius' ECUs. You need to use a better code reader.

    Good luck.

Generally speaking, if there are 'warnings lights' being displayed on the dash, then there will be codes (DTCs) stored in the ECUs.

It sounds like you have a failing combination meter, you might try a DIY fix on the existing part/dash. You could also purchase an upgraded replacement with a lifetime warranty from Matt at : Prius Speedometer Replacement

Not all OBD2 scanners are toyota hybrid compatible, which OBD2 scanner are you using to retrieve OBD2 codes (DTCs) with?

Have you rechecked all of the work from the replacement, maybe something was overlooked?

How many miles on this 2009?

You might get more traction by starting a new thread, describe the vehicle, the known problem, and any steps to repair in detail.

nope just my decent repair skills and diagnostics .. all three cars repaired displays working fine all over 270K ive no need techstream ive never had real codes just ghost codes from improper voltages etc .. erratic voltages can set triangles and chk engine lites even throw codes that make no good sense like Abs codes sitting still and all wotking perfectly .. onward to 600K . thanks all..

This won't help Tombukt2, but future readers who hope to solve problems with their Prii effectively will do well to take that with a grain of salt.

take it any way one likes this car requires electronic understanding along with ICE experience.,All the codes ive had on my personal and friends 2 and 3 have generally been added to system by serious voltage fluctuation.. ive watched it live from my drivers seat with flukes connected etc . no matter most of it generally seems to me to be 12 V related. if 12 V goes off a few 10th.s lights can come on displays go wonky etc . Like others ive Used a DEKA MC battery for many years very stable battery . gets 4 yrs old have another on standby . seriously im up into thee 400K on all four of mine so no matter most my Rolla's made near 500K.. thought my display was dying nope something further up line switching it at will on a tank of gas the display switches about 10 times I no longer fool with it rest of cars perfect actually prefer the display off at night so will just keep racking up miles .. now to make up real slugs for my 1.8 gen 3 bottom end..crap control rings .. Toodles
