My 2007 FJ probably had the same motor. I did like the spin on filter up top. The only strange thing was the drain hole at the bottom of the oil filter housing...the first oil change I did on it, oil dripped all over. Easy fix, just needed to put a little container to catch the dripping.

Yes of course this should only be about gen 2. But you started talking about gen 3 and all other Toyotas. And gave wrong information about them. That won't help anybody either.

I made that same mistake the first time too. ;)

Empty beer bottle works good to catch the oil. I kinda wedge it in there.

    All this info is wrong.

Whats your point dude? I gave 100% correct information about gen 2 Prius and all you want to argue about is gen 3 and whatnot.

Well. What's your point? You said you didn't give wrong information even when there's a quote with the wrong information in it right there.

Yes. You already posted this once. But you also did post information about gen 3 and all the other Toyotas that was also all wrong.

Ok. I don't really get why you keep posting the same message.

Look Dude I already admitted I was wrong about the oil filter thing. What more do you want? Your just being a bully at this point. I am 100% correct about my oil filter comment though.

Someone asks me a question about torque value. I answered, explaining that the 13 vs 17 confusion is likely due to the different oil filter types (gen 2 vs 3).

OP's question was about oil filter sockets, lest we forget.

Anyway, @Skibob, I've no idea what's eating you; I'm just gonna hit ignore.

I'm not trying to be a bully. But I still don't get what comment are you talking about?

Actually the question was about Oil filter wrenches, not oil filter sockets. Apparently I had no idea that a Gen 3 Prius had a different oil filter system. Did you?

I actually own a Gen 2 Prius that I service. Have you ever owned a Gen 2 Prius? Did you actually ever do any work on it?

To get the good filter socket (or wrench) just take the new filter to where they have the oil filter sockets and wrench. Then get the one that fits good.

Both my 4 runners have the 3600 V6 engine with the spin off oil filter at an angle on the drivers side. The V6 engine before your FJ and my 2005 Tacoma engine. Those can be messy but you gotta do what you gotta do. One was my wife's and one was mine. Only reason I keep them now is because they are both 5 speed sticks, rare for 4 runners. My wife passed on 2 years ago so I'm going to sell 1. Gonna go thru the 4 runner site though, manual 4 runners bring crazy money.

Hadn't been following from the start of this thread. Here's what shows up on a fresh-eyes read through:

Original poster is @rogerthat. Asked about filter wrench for Gen 2. Also showed interest in the proper torque:

@Mendel Leisk replied with the correct torque for Gen 2:

@rogerthat, the OP, questioned how to square that with a 17 ft lb figure seen somewhere else:

@Mendel Leisk answered the OP's direct question:

Which led to the OP's next question:

Which was the first time Gen 3 got mentioned in the thread, and made perfect sense in context of the OP wanting to understand which torque spec was for what.

That was where the OP got scolded for mentioning Gen 3, and the person doing the scolding also made a statement about Gen 3 (and "every other Toyota") that happens to be wrong.

Another poster corrected the wrong statement:

and @Skibob doubled down on it:

    and doubled down again:

    and doubled down again:

And then kinda, sorta owned up to the mistake (in an "well, if yada yada then I'm wrong" kind of way), combined with trying to shift attention to Mendel's posts (which, remember, gave correct Gen 2 info, and added Gen 3 info to answer OP's direct question).

    This:

might be what @Skibob means by

But in between was still a whole 'nother page of spin and trying to shift attention to Mendel:

    (narrator: it wasn't)

Which was where @valde3 pointed out (correctly) that it was @Skibob who made the first and only wrong statement about "Gen 3 Prius and almost all the newer Toyota engines".

And @Skibob again evaded and deflected:

    and evaded and deflected:

    and continued evading and deflecting:

    and accused @valde3 of bullying:

    and pulled a "who knew?"

(narrator: a lot of us did.)

It sure doesn't look like @valde3 was doing any bullying, or like @Mendel Leisk said anything incorrect, or did anything but give straight answers to the original poster's straight questions.

It would not be a bad thing for the one poster who did bring in incorrect information, and then spent a page and a half deflecting, accusing, and blaming others, to give a straight up "I was mistaken, sorry about that". Not the "well, if yada yada then I'm wrong" kind, not the "Im wrong dude **** off" kind, just the straight kind. It works wonders.
