    Hey everybody!

Hoping for some help here. Recently my Gen II prius (2007) has been having some issues with its ability to add gas to the tank. It started a few weeks ago and my gf could only get 2/3 gallons into the tank before the pump shut off. Mileage has been normal/consistent around 42/43 mpg. Then one night when the guess gauge dropped down to the point it needed to be filled again, i did the suggested method of pumping very slowly/holding the pump at different angles and was able to get about 5/6 gallons in, but it did fill up through the neck, not a serious overflow. Then for the next week my gauge was reading 1 blip below full and has not changed since. drove about 190 miles and no change. I also attempted to reset the inclination meter to no success. Any help would be appreciated.

could be a sending unit problem, but idk, the gen2 tank is just fussy.

defiantly a possibility. i'm just hoping for not having to replace the whole gas tank unit, but i love the car, so i'll do whatever is necessary

When there's an issue of not getting even a gallon or two in the tank, or it comes up the neck or flows back out (that is, when it isn't just the usual guess-gaugey vagueness about where "full" is), then something needs repair in the onboard-refueling (ORVR) system. You can follow in this thread for some more info. Often the issue will be that liquid fuel got into some of the passages that have to flow air during refueling (look in that thread at where mr_guy_mann drew the purple and blue lines). How it first happened can be a bit of a mystery and depend on usual refueling practices, but once it first gets a little messed up, people do tend to do things like the nozzle-angle tricks that are pretty much guaranteed to make it worse.
