2008 or 2009 Display Unit on 2005 Possible?

    Hi Everyone,

Strange question maybe, I've seen the display on the newer Gen 2s to look nicer than the one on my 2005, is it as simple as finding a display unit from a 2008/2009 and swapping it for the one on my 2005? It looks like it would fit just not sure if it's possible to do. I think the 2008/2009 models have the rearview camera, I already have a rearview camera installed on my Sony Deck using Carplay/Android Auto so I don't need that I'm just wondering about this.

Also, not related, I'm looking for the deflector thing for the front of the hood and on the windows, not sure what they're called, they're usually a darker plastic and they go on top of the windows and on the front of the hood, if someone knows what they're called and can guide me to a place where I can find them I would appreciate it, just not sure what to look for exactly.

    Thank you all :)

Here's a link for the rain guards. I'm not sure where you could get the (wind/stone/bug?) deflector for the hood.

There are two types of MFDs (low res and high res) but several different model numbers, depending on OEM car options. I may be wrong on this, but I seem to remember the low res was used for 2004/05 models and in later models without navigation/camera. The high res models were used in models with backup cameras. Like I said, I may be a little off on that, but what I can guarantee is that the high res and low res models get power on different pins at the back of the unit. So that means the pin outs are different between models. If you find the schematics for whichever models you plan to swap, you could probably swap the wires around so they match up. Or you may just end up smoking the mfd.

The low res model was the 86110-47081 and it was later superseded by the 86110-47081-C0. As far as I'm aware, the -C0 is still the current OEM replacement and can be used in any 04-09 that used a 47081 model. I'm not 100% certain if there were other low res models.

Thanks for the information guys definitely something to think about. I've just put money into the replacing the o-rings and the spark plugs so this upgrade may have to wait a bit but something I've been wondering about, it sounds like it's not impossible but it may not be a matter or replacing one with the other.

On a side note, the speaker on top of the MFD vibrates a bit and rattles which is sort of annoying, someone suggested using a foam ball to put inside that would apply pressure outward and keep it from vibrating.

I bought my car used, this summer, it's older, it's had 230KM when I bought it but it runs great except for a few quirks, I really do enjoy driving it so I want to take care of it as much as I can. In a couple of years I do plan to buy a Gen 3 as I like the look of it, quite frankly I'm not desperate to buy a new car, these cars are for the most part reliable and comfortable so new/used, doesn't really matter to me.

Thank you all for your assistance.

So that brings up another possibility. The speaker you mention is only included in the models that had the 9(?) speaker JBL system installed. I think that uses it's own model # mfd. How many buttons are on your display? 4 or 7?

The speaker may be rattling due to the mounting fasteners coming loose. I saw that in a 2007 dash I disassembled.

My recommendation for anyone replacing an MFD is to remove the current one to get the model number that's printed on the back. Purchase the exact same model number to ensure the new MFD will work properly with your car. There are different model numbers of mfds, and they're all slightly different based on package options on the car when new.

the 86110-47081 unit has 3 connectors on back .. from watching the video of the woman doing a replacement on her 06 or newer model, it appears the '06 model (higher res replacement ) has 4 connectors on back so .. i doubt a newer unit will work in an older car ..(04-05)

sorry to wake an old thread :)

I have owned and wrecked a lot of gen2 base model cars 2005 - 2008, recently picked up an 09 (base model) which has a few final updates or finishing touches that the other cars didnt have, most obvious thing is a more fluorescent look to the mfd, colours are definitely way brighter and just different to all the others that i have owned, maybe its just an 09 thing?
