I've been working on my wife's 2007 and got around to the parking brake which goes all the way to the floor. It's always engaged kinda low but lately, even with new brake shoes, it's not engaging fully. I removed the center console to tighten the adjustment, but it was already at its tightest! So I decided to see if I can adjust it at the pedal itself, but I can't figure out what to pop off to get to it? Any ideas?
Welcome to PriusChat!! The search feature is working again, here is an example search with returned results : https://priuschat.com/search/220991350/?q=adjusting+the+parking+brake&o=relevance&c[node]=12 Have you read the @ChapmanF post on how to adjust the parking brake? If that doesn't help, you may need to adjust the rear brakes (use the star wheel) or lubricate the automatic brake adjusting mechanism.
Thanks! Now I know to alternately push parking and brakes to adjust the parking brake. However, if the brake shoes already are adjusted, I'd like to know how to get access to the pedal to see how much I can get from there. I'm afraid to start tugging at panels randomly, since I could break things...
Hmm. That does seem to be maybe the best of the posts I wrote on that topic, only by mistake I wrote "0.03 inch" in that one instead of "0.03 mm". Too old to edit now. Maybe I can get a mod to fix it.
Yes, you need to properly adjust the brake starwheels at the rear shoes. Also be aware, that even if everything is adjusted correctly, it will take some use (few hundred miles or more on prius) to properly break-in or seat the new shoes. Until that happens, the parking brake can have fairly poor holding power (even though the pedal height might be good). Also might want to readjust shoes after break-in.
