Odd that they separate the PHEV for the RAV4 but not for the Prius.

Prius number are down 40% from 2019. Not too surprising now that you can get so many models as a hybrid.

Did anyone received a certificate from Toyota to qualify for the partial IRS tax credit? Unsure if the Prime has reached the 200K limit.

    The Mirai sales appear soft:
    • 20 - Dec 2020
    • 66 - Dec 2019
    • 499 - Total 2020
    • 1,502 - Total 2019
Sold or leased in only California, the ratio of sales-to-stations in 2020, ~40/499 ~= 8%. By all means, California should double the number of hydrogen stations and higher sales credits.

And it is an old model, in the sixth year of the current generation.

An interesting note about the new Venza. Here it is seen, correctly, as a somewhat more upscale, stylish, less practical variant of the Rav4 Hybrid. I read on a Japanese site that in Japan it is seen as a totally distinctive luxury compact SUV and is selling like crazy with a 9 month wait!

Camry best selling passenger car for not the 2nd or 3rd year in a row but for the 19th year in a roll!

What an outstanding accomplishment for Toyota - something like that doesn't happen by accident.

Toyota is looking very savvy by not abandoning the passenger car market as so many others have.

Many Automakers are just another oil crisis away form having their entire automobile lineup becoming irrelevant.

So they sold ~70K Prius in 2019 and only 44K Prius in 2020? Wow... Not looking good for the future of the Prius line? Seems like it won't be much longer before you can't buy a brand new Prius?

The RAV-4 hybrid looks like a nice ride.

My wife wants a new car. Current 24 MPG 2011 Avalon with 73k miles. OK, what do you want?

Drove 40+ miles in my Rav4h to a large upscale dealer. Wow showroom.

    Drove three cars:
Avalon Hybrid - plush and smooth and quiet but low and doesn't want the colors it comes in. Tired of white and beige. Doesn't like dark blue or red. Grey not a good color for her. She wants a light blue, sorry.
Venza - seat as uncomfortable as my Rav4 for long drives for her. Likes the high position. Difficulty with the rear view.
HyHi - too big, noisy and not as comfortable as the Avalon

But was impressive is that of the 4 Toyotas we drove everything seemed to work and there wasn't a squeak or rattle anywhere.

Sh will pick the Avalon because it is familiar. I won't object, it gets the best MPG. Now we go into where to buy mode as I already have $5k off but from a Md dealer. No way I'm going to get that locally as we are in the SET area. Maybe wait till we get our second Covid shot (got first today) and travel to get the car after factory order.

So what? Frankly, the important thing is that the HSD has proliferated.

Yea... Pretty much... But does that mean we eventually change the name of the website to HSDchat? Doesn't have the same kind of ring to it.

Haha true! It could be argued the name could already be changed because Toyota has so many hybrid models. (y)

Already happened in Germany (mostly because the Corolla Hybrid in sedan, hatch and wagon form is cheaper because it's locally produced so no import tax, and also available in multiple bodystyles and two HSD powertrain options and thus more appealing).

The highlights as I see it. TMNA dollar sales were down less than I expected (11.9% 2020 versus 2019). These are good results during covid.

The bright spot seem to be the rav4 hybrid and Highlander hybrid which saw large increases of both unit and dollar volume. Camry hybrid also increased a lot but from a much lower level.

Rav4 prime sales are disappointing, but this appears to be a manufacturing shortfall of batteries. Toyota needs to ramp battery production for this model.

Prius sales are disappointing and Toyota's other car based hybrids did not make up for the volume and dollar loss. It may be time to end this as a hybrid and small battery phev, and just design it as a phev. corrola and camry hybrids will probably take the hybrid car volume that it would have next year.

Yes ... but as john like to esoterically say, "know your audience". Toyota didn't calculate demand - so they didn't secure enough long term contracts for battery / traction packs. But maybe they can use the cells that are needed less & less in the dwindling Prius market - unless they're already getting diverted to the Camry & Corola market.
The RAVprime IS a nice ride ... but with stealerships adding as much as $10K on top of MSRP (much farther north of invoice) ... heck - you could get a Model Y & screw the gas pump for ever.

I wonder if anyone got close to RAV4 Prime sticker price before they started marking up...We can maybe check CNCDA to see how many of those Prime were sold in Ca, but that data normally comes out md-Feb

looking & looking ... it seems like the only chance to get MSRP is on the N/east coast . . . . for who knows what reason.
