If you "dismiss" the codes or whatever it's caused, is it completely gone, or still something stored, that dealership chould recover to check? (n)

I got Techstream going, after a lot of messing around. With that AND about 4 Android apps I can't find any codes at all. At one point early in this process the original DTC code indicated it was "permanent" or some such thing. I tried to reset it, and it would not. Then it seemed to change it's mind a day later and did let me reset it. Haven't had a problem since.

Waiting for the 'codes' to drop.

Disappearing hybrid system.....disappearing codes.....when and how to trust again?

After some short town trips I finally took it on a short road trip. The codes stayed away. The car works fine. Yesterday took it on a >100 mile trip.
Note - made sure to get AAA with 100 mile towing.
Worked fine. Everything seems perfectly normal. Of course, it seemed perfectly normal 1 second before it suddenly 'went very bad indeed'.

I have no idea what to make of this. How can a seemingly major problem just kind of "go away" with absolutely no intervention than clearing a pretty alarming code? How do I know it's not going to reappear and bite me if I'm hundreds on miles away from home?

Did you ever bring it in? If not, you seriously should; this is very likely covered by warranty, and even if not somehow, initial diagnosis is maybe $100.

I was trying to figure out what was going on before taking to the dealer. This whole hybrid field is new to me. I want to understand how these things work.
While doing this the problem went away. I really didn't DO anything, but fret and annoy this forum.

How are they going to diagnose the problem? I ran Techstream, twice actually a day apart > nothing. No codes I can find now, after that one initial code. It runs normally as far as I can tell.Normal power, normal mpg, no issues at all.Other than this mystery I'm pretty thrilled with the car.

I've got nothing to provide the dealer but my verbal history. I don't see what they could actually do. OTOH, I don't know what I can do either.....but wait.

Same size, make, pressure checked right after I got it. No TPMS alarms.

The Prius soldiers on, with no problems. Took it on another 100 mile drive, loaded with 4 people + day hiking gear, up a low mountain pass, ~ 3K elevation gain at freeway speed. No issues at all. I'm...just....starting to trust it again. I'm not sure if that is foolish or not.

What happened to the major issue with the hybrid system simply failing to function? Why did it happen? How did it resolve itself? I've never had an ICE have a spontaneous miracle cure. When an ICE is broke, it generally stays broke. This is too weird.

I don't understand this problem at all. If you have not, read this whole thread carefully.
Briefly, I got the code, car ran terrible, no electric system at all. Doing essentially nothing it went away. I did use an OBD2 and cleared the codes. It's been fine since then.

I have no idea what caused it. I don't know why it went away. I never did take it to the dealer since the problem went away and I cleared the codes. What could they find and how would they find it?
The code seems very uncommon and I did a lot of research. It was the ONLY code I got (did not have Techstream at the time), even though the dash showed a lot of 'lights'. When I finally was able to connect Techstream there were no codes at all.

If you are still having the problem, and the code is present, I guess take it to a dealer if you have one you trust. If you do I'd really appreciate knowing what the problem was and what was done to fix it. I worry that mine will come back sometime.

Update - I've continued to drive it, primarily as a hiking car, meaning 50-80 mile one way trips with some mountain pass climbing loaded with 4-5 people. No problems at all.

Update over 2 years later - Problem has not shown up again, which I'm very grateful for.
