My new to me Prius has the original mats. They are dirty as heck but they don't look worn.

Still, I don't know if the stains will all come out.

I am preparing for the possibility of new mats but I want mats that fit correctly and have no chance of touching the accelerator pedal.

What are some good mats that meet this criteria? Factory only?

I have pretty bad allergies and I am trying to get in the habit of deep cleaning my cars so that I have "safe havens" when I need to drive in them. I am not sure what these mats can be harboring after 15 years.

    Thank you.

Have you tried soaking/washing with a good carpet shampoo and then pressure washing them clean?

No, I have never heard of that being a technique. I have a carpet steamer with good cleaner and a pressure washer.

    Care to expand? Thanks.

I have seen pressure washing car carpets in quite a few Youtube videos when looking at car detailing videos. I've also seen a video of a guy pressure washing his Prius floor carpet (after removing it from the car). In the before photo, the carpet looked totally disgusting, and in the after photo after cleaning and drying it looked almost new. He pressure washed the seat belt webbing as well.

I wouldn't use the steamer until you have most of the stains out of the carpet. You don't want the heat setting the stains.

Just take the mats out of the car and in the driveway use some laundry detergent and soak the mat and give it a good scrubbing and then try to squeegee all the water out and let it dry outside it will look great.

If you got allergies you have to maintain the e coil under the dash thats what will get you that's where all the mold lives.

Its what your smelling when you turn on the ac. It requires a pressurized can of cleaner pumped back up the ac drip hose. It fills the evap coil box with foamy cleaner and drips back out as liquid.

try to do mine every few years really helps cut down on the mold. Your car will smell much better.

Dealer charges $150. You can buy the cans on amazon called Kool It for $15 comes with the connection hose. Its a hassle you have to get the car up on jacks and get to the ac drip hose its directly under the glove box.

I'm going to buy the Bissell spotclean pro and try to clean both of my cars. Not sure about the carpets and the mats, maybe the mats will be better to start with the pressure washer and try to dry/clean it even more with the spotclean to get rid of the most water and dirt leftovers.

Had some leakages and mould in my Ford Focus C-Max, smell is almost gone but mould is still in the carpets and seats and after a good vacuum clean, still not all is out. Just waiting for a less colder time to start it, with these temperatures (around freezing) it will take weeks to dry... Mats can dry outside the car, that's an advantage here.

    Best regards, Nick

If you had any kind of water leak (clogged sunroof or A/C evaporator drain, windshield leak, etc) then after the source of the leak is repaired you need to dry the car out. The problem is that modern automotive carpeting is made with a plastic backing layer. Water that gets underneath it soaks into the insulation padding below the carpet and cannot escape, causing mildew.

You can try putting a small dehumidifier inside the car, which should help some. The only way I have found to "make it like it never happened" is to remove the seats and whatever interior components as needed to pull the carpeting to wash and dry it. It's a lot of work but you get the best results that way.

    Yes!

Just bought a set of Weather tech mats for a new car. Wife complained they hurt her wrist taking them in they were so heavy. They fit perfectly.

And of course got there windshield shade which lasts 13 years.

I buy these and wheelskins for steering wheel for every car I own. The steering wheel wheelskins are just flat out awesome. They feel so good.

you get what you pay for.

Sorry misspelling $109 for the fronts only. Best $109 you will spend.
When you sell the car you can sell them on eBay for $60 I know I’ve done it lol...
They sell them and the wheelskins in the Prius shop too.
